現代語訳
鎌倉一の風流男といえば梶原源太ばかりかと思えば、新之丞はなんとも言いようのない風俗（身だしなみ）で、役者ならばさぞかし贔屓がありそうな事である。弓馬の道を心がけ、孝心の心深く、屋敷の家来の取り扱いも真に銭の勘定も推し量りなされず、本当の殿様だと喜んでいた。

When one thinks of the most elegant man in Kamakura, one might think only of Kajiwara Genta, but Shin no Jō has such indescribable refinement in his appearance that if he were an actor, he would surely have many patrons. He dedicates himself to the way of archery and horsemanship, has deep filial piety, and in his treatment of household retainers and handling of money matters, he is truly beyond reproach - they rejoiced that he was a genuine master.
