あり十八日朝より大雨しきりにふり雷（らい）
地震打 交（まぜ）て雨は車軸（しやぢく）を流（なが）すが如く忽（たちまち）
加茂川堀川西洞院桂川へ水一てきに出
て川 添（そい）の家は水多く這（は）入て皆其辺大
騒動（そうどう）するに爰（こゝ）に音羽（おとは）川とて洛東（らくとう）清水寺
の音羽の瀧（たき）の流れ落来る小川すへは加茂川
へながれ落る此水実に多く出て川すじ
伏見 街道（かいとう）鞘（さや）町問屋町辺はわけて大 洪（こう）水

にて人家の床（ゆか）より一尺も上（うへ）へ水 越（こ）し其辺
大家に油商売（あぶらや）【賣】あり地にいけし【地面に入れ込むこと。】 油壷（あふらつほ）へ水
流れ込（こみ）出て其辺油くさき事 得（ゑ）【振り仮名は「え」とあるところ。】もいえず
水 引去（ひきさ）りて後（のち）其近辺の井中へ油流れ込
実に困り果（はて）しとかや此時清水寺の廊下（らうか）
崩（くづ）れ倒（たを）るゝよし是等も前代未聞（ぜんたいみもん）の事
どもにて是が止（と）どなる歟と皆いへりそも

あり。十八日朝より大雨がしきりに降り、雷と
地震が入り混じって、雨は車軸を流すかのように激しく、たちまち
加茂川、堀川、西洞院、桂川へ水が一気に出て、
川沿いの家は水が多く這い入って皆その辺りは大
騒動する。ここに音羽川という洛東清水寺
の音羽の滝の流れ落ちて来る小川の末は加茂川
へ流れ落ちる。この水が実に多く出て川筋の
伏見街道、鞘町、問屋町辺りは特に大洪水

となって、人家の床より一尺も上へ水が越し、その辺りの
大きな家に油商売をする店があり、地面に埋め込んである油壺へ水が
流れ込んで出て、その辺りは油臭いこと言いようもなく、
水が引き去った後、その近辺の井戸の中へ油が流れ込み、
実に困り果てたということだ。この時清水寺の舞台が
崩れ倒れたということで、これらも前代未聞の出来事
ばかりで、これが終わりなのかと皆が言った。そもそも

earthquakes intermixing. The rain fell as if washing away cart axles, and suddenly
water rushed into the Kamo River, Hori River, Nishi-no-toin, and Katsura River all at once.
Houses along the rivers had much water flow in, causing great
commotion throughout those areas. Here there is the Otowa River, a small stream in eastern Kyoto where
the water from Otowa Falls at Kiyomizu Temple
flows down and eventually into the Kamo River. This water came out in great volume, and along the riverbed,

The water rose more than one foot above the floors of houses. In that area
there was a large house with an oil merchant, and water
flowed into oil jars that were buried in the ground, making the surrounding area
indescribably oily-smelling.
After the water receded, oil flowed into the wells in the nearby area,
causing great distress, it is said. At this time, the wooden stage of Kiyomizu Temple
collapsed and fell down. These were all unprecedented events,
