比は文政十三《割書：庚｜寅》のとし七月二日昼七ツ時京都
大地震にて始めドロ〳〵とゆり出し其後ひき
続（つゝい）て大地震となりやゝしばらく家居倒（いへいたを）
るゝ斗りにて只思ひがけなく皆地に伏（ふ）し
畳に伏し柱（はしら）をいだき垣（かき）を杖（つへ）にするも皆
其身の全（まつた）き事のみ祈（いの）る中に老（らう）人の出て
大道へ出よとのゝしるを聞伝【傳】へ銘々板を並べ

これは文政十三年（庚寅の年）七月二日昼七つ時、京都で
大地震があって、初めドロドロと揺り出し、その後引き
続いて大地震となり、しばらくの間、家屋が倒れる
ばかりで、ただ思いがけなく皆地に伏し、
畳に伏し、柱を抱き、垣を杖にするも、皆
その身の無事なことのみを祈る中に、老人が出てきて
「大道へ出よ」と大声で叫ぶのを聞き伝えて、めいめい板を並べ

Record of the Great Earthquake
This was on the second day of the seventh month of Bunsei 13 (the year of Kanoe-Tora), at the seventh hour of the day, when there was a great earthquake in Kyoto. It began with a rumbling tremor, and subsequently continued as a great earthquake. For a while, houses were on the verge of collapse, and unexpectedly everyone prostrated themselves on the ground, lay flat on tatami mats, embraced pillars, and used fences as walking sticks, all praying only for their own safety. Meanwhile, an elderly person emerged and shouted loudly "Get out to the main road!" Upon hearing this message spread, everyone laid out boards
