類編辟瘟丹：この丹薬を焼けば瘟疫に感染せず、長期間空き家となった房屋でこれを焼けば穢悪を避けることができる。乳香・蒼朮・細辛・甘松・川芎・降香を各等分とし、棗肉で丸薬とする。芡実の大きさにし、瘟疫が大流行する時に、家中の各所でこれを焚けば感染しない。

一方では白檀末を加える。集験方の避温丸：疫気に遭遇した時、一丸を焼けば伝染を免れる。蒼朮一斤を末にし、紅棗一斤の肉を取って搗いて丸薬とする。弾子大にしてこれを焼く。

説疫蒼降反魂香：穢れを除き疫病を祓う。蒼朮と降真香を各等分とし、共に末にして艾葉の中に揉み入れ、綿紙で巻いて筒状にして焼く。同じ方法で天行時疫や宅舎の怪異にも降真香は効験がある。

また伝えられるところでは、房中では諸香を焼いてはならず、ただ降真香を焚くのが適している。諸香は燥烈で用いるべきではなく、降香を除く。洗寃録の辟穢丹：穢気を辟けることができる。麝香少許、細辛半両、甘松一両、川芎二両。右三味を細末とし、蜜で弾子大の丸薬とする。

倘湖樵書に伝えられるところでは、「アジアの地中海に島が百千あり、その大きなものを哥阿島と言う。国人はことごとく疫病を患った。その中に依加得という名医がいて、薬石で治療せず、城内外に遍く大火を挙げさせ、一昼夜焼いて止めたところ、病気も治った」とある。

按ずるに疫病は邪気に侵されるものであり、火気は猛烈で諸邪を蕩滌することができる。邪気が尽きて疾病が愈える、これもまた至理である。易に曰く「万物を燥かすものは火に熯かすに如くはなし」と。疫病は邪火であり、なお龍雷の火を正火で滅するがごとく、この理を知らぬわけにはいかない。これもまた焼滅の最も大なるものである。

また嗅いでこれを避ける者がある。呉崑の疫瘧五神丸、塞鼻法考に伝えられるところでは、「疫気は無形で鼻より入るため、鼻において之を塞ぐ」とある。世俗で人馬平安散、医通点眼沙等を鼻に塗って瘟疫を避ける者があるのは、この理である。また内服してこれを避ける

Categorized Epidemic-Avoiding Pills: Burning these pills prevents infection by epidemic diseases. In houses that have been empty for long periods, burning them can avoid foul evils. Take equal parts of frankincense, atractylodes, asarum, nardostachys, cnidium, and agarwood incense, form pills with jujube flesh the size of euryale seeds. When epidemics are raging, burn them in various places throughout the house to prevent infection.

One formula adds white sandalwood powder. The Epidemic-Avoiding Pills from "Collection of Proven Formulas": When encountering epidemic qi, burn one pill to avoid contagion. Take one jin of atractylodes powder and one jin of red jujube flesh, pound into pills the size of bullets and burn them.

Anti-epidemic Atractylodes-Agarwood Soul-Returning Incense: Removes defilement and dispels epidemics. Take equal parts atractylodes and jiangzhen incense, powder together and knead into mugwort leaves, roll in cotton paper into tubes and burn. The same method works for seasonal epidemics and household anomalies - jiangzhen incense is effective.

It is also said that various incenses should not be burned in rooms - only jiangzhen incense should be burned. Other incenses are dry and harsh and should not be used, except agarwood incense. The Defilement-Avoiding Pills from "Record of Washing Away Injustices": Can repel foul qi. A small amount of musk, half liang of asarum, one liang of nardostachys, two liang of cnidium. Make the above three ingredients into fine powder, form pills with honey the size of bullets.

The Tanghu Woodcutter's Book records: "In the Mediterranean of Asia there are hundreds and thousands of islands. The largest is called Goa Island. All the people suffered from epidemic disease. Among them was a famous physician named Yijiede, who did not treat with medicines and stones but ordered great fires to be lit throughout the city, burning for one day and night before stopping, whereupon the diseases were also cured."

Upon reflection, epidemics are invasions by evil qi, and fire qi is fierce and violent, able to cleanse and wash away all evils. When evil is exhausted, disease is cured - this too is supreme principle. The I Ching says "Nothing dries ten thousand things like fire." Epidemics are evil fire, just as dragon-thunder fire is extinguished by proper fire - this principle must be understood. This too is the greatest form of destruction by burning.

There are also those who avoid epidemics by inhaling. Wu Kun's Five Spirits Pills for Epidemic Malaria, and the Study of Nose-Blocking Methods record: "Since epidemic qi is formless and enters through the nose, block it at the nose." The common practice of applying Human and Horse Peace Powder, Medical Eye Drops, etc. to the nose to avoid epidemics follows this principle.
