和漢三才圖會漢木類に曰
　　　甤核（すいがく）　　　白挼　甤與挼同
　　　《割書：とりとまらず｜》　　俗に云 不（ず）鳥（とり）止（とまら）

救荒本草曰
　　　蕤核　俗に名蕤子

　　　虎茨　　可考

　　　　　　　　　按倭名抄に以挼を訓するは太良と非也太良は楤
　　　　　　　　　也甤核は葉にめ似り枸杞に又云葉小く團長
　　　　　　　　　似黄楊に開白花を枝葉の間多刺鳥不能は
　　　　　　　　　來止て故に俗呼曰鳥不すと止て恐らくは此甤核乎
　　　　　　　　　　予曰地錦抄同説に亦葉似りと云黄楊に書く各
　　　　　　　　　　能合す皆人不知甤核と云ふを専稱す之を有通と
　　　　　　　　　　救荒圖甚 違（たかへり）又葉形不合然共似りと枸
　　　　　　　　　　杞に其余は皆合へり

現代語訳

丙戌仲呂十四日写

『地錦抄』に曰く
　　　ありどおし　この樹は細かい刺が多くあるため、鳥が実を
　　　　　　　好むといえども刺を恐れて食べない。故にまた
　　　　　　　鳥止まらずとも言うという

『和漢三才図会』漢木類に曰く
　　　蕤核（すいかく）　　　白挼　蕤と挼は同じ
　　　　　俗に言う鳥止まらず

『救荒本草』に曰く
　　　蕤核　俗に蕤子と名づく

『奇品鏡』
　　　虎茨　　考証すべし

　　　　　　　同書に曰く
　　　　　　　　　思うに『倭名抄』で挼を太良と訓するのは誤りである。太良は楤
　　　　　　　　　である。蕤核は葉が枸杞に似て、また葉は小さく円く長く
　　　　　　　　　黄楊に似る。白い花を開き、枝葉の間に刺が多く、鳥が
　　　　　　　　　来て止まることができないため、故に俗に鳥止まらずと呼ぶ。
　　　　　　　　　おそらくこれが蕤核であろう。
　　　　　　　　　　私が思うに『地錦抄』も同じ説で、また葉が黄楊に似ると書いて
　　　　　　　　　　おり、それぞれよく合致する。皆、蕤核と言うことを知らず、
　　　　　　　　　　専らこれをありどおしと称している。
　　　　　　　　　　『救荒図』は甚だ異なり、また葉の形も合わない。しかしながら
　　　　　　　　　　枸杞に似るという点と、その他の点は皆合っている。

The "Chikin-shō" states:
　　　Aridōshi　This tree has many fine thorns, so although birds
　　　　　　　like the fruit, they fear the thorns and do not eat it. Hence it is also
　　　　　　　called "tori-tomarazu" (birds do not perch)

The "Wakan Sansai Zue," Chinese Trees section, states:
　　　Suikaku (蕤核)　　　Hakuda　Sui and Da are the same
　　　　　Commonly called "tori-tomarazu" (birds do not perch)

The "Jiuhuang Bencao" states:
　　　Ruihe　Commonly named Ruizi

"Kihin-kyō":
　　　Koibara　　Should be investigated

　　　　　　　The same book states:
　　　　　　　　　I believe that in the "Wamyō-shō," reading "da" as "tara" is incorrect. "Tara" refers to Aralia.
　　　　　　　　　Suikaku has leaves resembling those of Chinese wolfberry, and the leaves are also small, round, and long,
　　　　　　　　　resembling boxwood. It produces white flowers, and there are many thorns among the branches and leaves, so birds
　　　　　　　　　cannot come and perch on it. Therefore, it is commonly called "tori-tomarazu."
　　　　　　　　　This is probably Suikaku.
　　　　　　　　　　I believe the "Chikin-shō" presents the same theory, and it also writes that the leaves resemble boxwood,
　　　　　　　　　　and each source agrees well. Everyone does not know to call it Suikaku,
　　　　　　　　　　but exclusively calls it Aridōshi.
　　　　　　　　　　The "Jiuhuang Tu" differs greatly, and the leaf shape also does not match. However, the resemblance
　　　　　　　　　　to Chinese wolfberry and other aspects all correspond.
