　　　大豆草（まめさう）　俗稱

　　　　　其葉の形故に（まめ）を二つに
　　　　　分（わり）たる如なる故に大豆草と云
　　　　　乎（か）又岩豆と云者あり
　　　　　豆草と云別種なり

予曰群書を考
　仙人條其葉似 馬齒莧（すべりひゆ）に無根髭
　挟めは能生しすし四五月開黄花を與 佛甲草（ねなしくさ）と
　相同然共佛甲草其葉長く未尖る仙人
　條は葉圓く無根髭活安き事相同し
　或之を云壁生草と 壁生（いつまで）も久有故に名くと
　然共地錦抄に曰壁生草は似りと蔦に能壁に付て
　生する由與とは此れ別種にめ二草一名なる乎此類多き已仙人條の説　　具に合俗皆呼んて曰 豆状草（まめさう）と

『和漢三才図会』石草類に曰く
　　　壁生草（いつまでぐさ）　万年草

　　　　　　玉柏もまた万年草と称するが、
　　　　　　ただし草の字を音読みと
　　　　　　訓読みで区別するのみ
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　『大和本草』
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　園草類に曰く

　　　大豆草（まめそう）　俗称

　　　　　その葉の形が豆を二つに
　　　　　割ったような形であるため大豆草という
　　　　　のか。また岩豆という者もある。
　　　　　豆草というのは別種である。

私が曰く、群書を考察すると
　仙人条はその葉がスベリヒユに似て根ひげがなく、
　挟めばよく生き、四・五月に黄花を開く。ネナシクサと
　相同じである。しかしネナシクサはその葉が長く先端が尖り、仙人
　条は葉が丸く根ひげがなく、生命力が強いことは同じである。
　あるいはこれを壁生草という。壁生（いつまで）も久しくあることから名付けると。
　しかし『地錦抄』に曰く、壁生草はツタに似てよく壁に付いて
　生するとあり、これは別種である。二草が一名なのか、この類は多い。仙人条の説は
　詳しく俗に合い、皆これを呼んで豆状草（まめそう）という。

"Wakan Sansai Zue," Stone and Grass section, states:
　　　Wall-growing grass (itsumade-gusa) - Ten Thousand Year Grass

　　　　　　Gyokuhaku is also called Ten Thousand Year
　　　　　　Grass, but the character for "grass" is distinguished
　　　　　　only by its on-reading and kun-reading
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　"Yamato Honzō"
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　Garden Grass section states:

　　　Bean grass (mame-sō) - common name

　　　　　Because its leaf shape resembles a bean
　　　　　split in two, it is called bean grass.
　　　　　Some also call it rock bean.
　　　　　What is called bean grass is a different species.

I say, examining various texts:
　Sedum has leaves resembling purslane but without root hairs.
　When pinched, it lives well and blooms yellow flowers in the 4th and 5th months. It is
　the same as Buddha's nail grass (nenashi-kusa).
　However, Buddha's nail grass has long leaves with pointed tips, while sedum
　has round leaves without root hairs, and their vitality is similarly strong.
　Some call this wall-growing grass. "Wall-growing" (itsumade) is named for its longevity.
　However, "Chikin-shō" states that wall-growing grass resembles ivy and grows well attached to walls,
　which makes this a different species. Whether these two grasses share one name, there are many of this type. The explanation of sedum
　accords well with common usage, and all call it bean-shaped grass (mame-sō).
