直径十五間を縦横に置いてかければ二百二十五坪となる。これに七九（0.79）をかければ百七十七坪七分五厘となる。これを三十坪で割る。

直径が測れない場合は周囲を測る。周囲が四十七間二尺六寸ある。この二尺六寸を六五（0.65）で割れば四十七間四（分）となる。これを三一六（3.16）で割れば直径十五間となる。これを縦横に置いてかければ二百二十五坪となる。これに七九（0.79）をかけ、三十坪で割る。

Place the diameter of 15 ken both vertically and horizontally and multiply them together, yielding 225 tsubo. Multiply this by 0.79 (the ratio of circle to square, i.e., π/4 ≈ 0.79), giving 177 tsubo 7 fun 5 rin. Divide this by 30 tsubo.

When the diameter cannot be measured directly, measure the circumference instead. The circumference is 47 ken 2 shaku 6 sun. Divide the remaining 2 shaku 6 sun by 0.65 (a conversion factor) to get 47 ken and 4 (parts). Divide this by 3.16 (the approximate value of π used in this text) to obtain the diameter of 15 ken. Place this value vertically and horizontally and multiply them. This gives 225 tsubo. Multiply by 0.79, then divide by 30 tsubo.
