長さ三十間の内から十四間を引けば、残り十六間となる。これにまた十四間をかければ二百二十四坪となる。これを右（一方）に別に置いておく。また左（もう一方）に十四間を縦横に置いてかければ百九十六となる。これに七九（0.79）をかければ百五十四坪八分四厘となる。これを右の二百二十四坪に加えると、三百七十八坪八分四厘となる。これを三百坪で割れば一反二畝十八歩八分四厘となる。

この屋敷の周りに田がある。内側のまわりは八十四間、外側のまわりは百二十間あり、幅は六間ある。これはどれほどあるかというと、

方法として、外と内を合わせると二百四間ある。これを二つに割れば百二間となる。これに六間をかければ六百十二坪となる。これを三百坪で割る。

Subtract 14 ken from the total length of 30 ken, leaving 16 ken. Multiply this by 14 ken to get 224 tsubo. Set this aside (on the right). Separately, place 14 ken both vertically and horizontally and multiply them to get 196. Multiply this by 0.79 to get 154 tsubo 8 fun 4 rin. Add this to the 224 tsubo set aside earlier, yielding 378 tsubo 8 fun 4 rin. Divide this by 300 tsubo to obtain 1 tan 2 se 18 bu 8 fun 4 rin.

There is a field surrounding a residence. The inner circumference is 84 ken, the outer circumference is 120 ken, and the width is 6 ken. The question asks how large this field is.

The method: Add the outer and inner circumferences together to get 204 ken. Divide by 2 to get 102 ken. Multiply by 6 ken (the width) to get 612 tsubo. Divide this by 300 tsubo.
