正月が三回あるある年に、娘の子は「ねえ様の着物を五着縫ってください」と言い、息子は「お母さん、長い話をして聞かせて」とせがむので、隣の子まで来て「おばさん、摘み草に連れて行って」とお出かけをかねて言うので、予定していたミシンでの仕事を一度に催促される。
「それでも正月が三回あるときという約束だったのに」
「ああ、もう気が滅入ってしまいそうだ。正月が五回ある時まで待とう」
英語訳
In a year when New Year occurs three times, the daughter's child says "Please sew five kimonos for elder sister," while the son begs "Mother, please tell us a long story." Even the neighbor's child comes over saying "Auntie, please take us herb picking" as an outing, so all the sewing machine work that had been planned gets demanded all at once.
