The method states as follows: ● Next to the "100" in the quotient, ● place "20." ● Then, for the lower square (下方, *kahō*) register, ● shift one place, ● double the 100 to make ● 200, ● and below this place "20." ● This "20" is placed ● in accordance with what has just been set in the quotient. ● Then, using the "divisor" (法, *hō*) register, ● call the "20" of the quotient against the "200" of the lower square. ● By "two times two makes four," place 4,000 in the divisor register; ● then again, ● call the "20" of the quotient against the "20" of the lower square. ● By "two times two makes four," place 400 in the divisor register, ● and subtract these from the dividend.
