法にいふ商に二十のつきに三とをきて下法には一くらひ
さけて二十を一はいにして四十となして此下に
三とをきて此三は商にやく法といふていま

下方の二百に商の三をよぶ三四の百廿と法に
をきて又下方の三に商の三をよふ也三三の

手順として、商の二十の次に三を置く。下法には一桁下げて、二十を一列にして四十とし、この下に三を置く。この三は商に「役法（やくほう）」といって、今立てた数に従って置くものである。そして再び法によって、下方の二百に商の三を掛ける。三×四＝百二十として法に置き、また下方の三に商の三を掛ける。三×三＝九坪として法に置くと、七百二十九坪となる。これを実から引き払う時に、
百二十三間四方となる

The procedure: Place 3 next to the 20 in the quotient (商). In the lower divisor section, shift one place down and arrange 20 in one row to make 40, then place 3 below this. This 3 is placed in accordance with the number just established in the quotient, following what is called the "auxiliary divisor" (役法). Then, again using the divisor, multiply the 200 in the lower section by the 3 in the quotient. Calculate 3×4=120 and place it in the divisor position. Also multiply the 3 in the lower section by the 3 in the quotient. Calculate 3×3=9 tsubo and place it in the divisor position, making a total of 729 tsubo.
