現代語訳
さても今井四郎兼平は、様々に義仲へ諫言申したが、佞臣の弁は蜜のごとく甘く、忠臣の言葉は良薬が苦いがごとく、義仲はかえって立腹して勘当との事ゆえ、仕方なく引き籠もり、「何とぞ本心になり給わん」と昼夜肺肝を痛めていた。

「申し上げます。わが君、公の討手として義経・蒲冠者の先陣は、早くも逢坂の関まで押し寄せましたとの風聞。早く君の御戦度御見届け遊ばされ、御心に存じまする。」
【往来の人々の台詞】
「恐ろしいことがまた始まった。それではもう（逃げねば）…この頃少し（平和だった）などと思ったのに。平家は追っての事、まず木曽殿を討たんと鎌倉勢が雲霞のごとく攻め上って参ります。」
英語訳
Now, Imai Shirō Kanehira had repeatedly offered various admonitions to Yoshinaka, but the words of flatterers are sweet like honey, while the words of loyal retainers are bitter like good medicine. Yoshinaka instead became angry and banished him, so Kanehira had no choice but to withdraw into seclusion, spending day and night agonizing in his heart, praying "somehow may he return to his true nature."
【Kanehira's retainer's dialogue】
"I report to you, my lord. The vanguard of Yoshitsune and Kaba no Kwanja, sent as His Lordship's strike force, has already pressed forward to Ōsaka Barrier according to rumors. Please quickly ascertain our lord's intentions regarding battle preparations, as you see fit."
【People on the street's dialogue】
"Terrible things are starting again. Then we must (flee)... Just when we thought things had been a bit (peaceful) lately. The Heike are a matter for later - first the Kamakura forces are advancing like clouds and mist to strike down Lord Kiso."
