頃は睦月の末つ方、木曽義仲の企てが鎌倉へ聞こえたので、早速討手の勢が攻め上ったため、宇治川にて支えたが佐々木・梶原に渡され、散々に敗北があり、粟津を指して落ち行き給う。

「頼み切ったる伊達・根井を始め討ち死にしたゆえ、はかない。心よく勝負せん。そなたはどこへでも立ち忍び、胎内の男子をつつがなく産み、育て、末の世に名を上げさせてくれよ、巴よ。」

「過ぎし頃、御不興を蒙り御館を出されしより、淀の辺りに身を隠し、御身の上危うきと聞くと等しく駆けつけしに、思わぬ所での御対面。ただ甲斐もなく討ち負け落とされ給う御不勢い。そもそも、その様に大腰抜けには成り給いしぞ。浅ましやなあ。」

Around the end of the first month (Mutsuki), word of Kiso Yoshinaka's plot reached Kamakura, so strike forces immediately advanced upward. Though they held them at the Uji River, they were outflanked by Sasaki and Kajiwara, suffered devastating defeats, and now retreat toward Awazu.

"Date and Nei, whom I trusted completely, have died in battle, so all is in vain. I shall meet my fate with dignity. You must flee to wherever you can, safely bear the male child in your womb, raise him, and let him make a name for himself in future generations, Tomoe."
