現代語訳
【磁石を用いた地震前兆知覚法の解説と図示】
……（この発明はパリの学校のみによるものと）思うことなかれ。「エレクトリック・マグネティズム（越列機帝利的多麻窟涅窒斯密斯）」※1として、親和（引力）の理がすでに明らかになっているによって、学問の道においても、やや（しだいに）この論（議論・学説）がないわけではない。しかも、電気（越列機）の力が地震によって障碍（さまたげ）を受けることは、すでに世の人の知るところである。
地震の前兆を知る方法を、初学者（童蒙）のために図に表し、その手引き（指南）を訳す。左（以下）の如し。

[On the Theory and Practical Instructions for Detecting Earthquake Precursors Using Magnets]
...One should not think (that this discovery belongs solely to the school of Paris). Since the principles of "Electromagnetism" (*Erekki-teiri-teki-tomangu-nechi-sumisu* [transliteration of a Western scientific term for electromagnetism]) and of attraction have already been clarified, even in the realm of academic inquiry, this theory has gradually come to have some presence. Moreover, it is already common knowledge among the people of the world that the power of electricity (*erekki*) is disrupted by earthquakes.
In order to explain the method of detecting earthquake precursors, and for the benefit of beginners (*dōmō*, lit. "young and unlearned"), we present the method in illustrated form and translate its instructions as follows.
