は附着（すいつき）ありて落（おつ）るといふことなし若（もし）まさに地震あらんと
するときは磁石（じやく）黒鉄（てつ）に親和（しんくわ｜すいつく ）の利用（りよう）を失（うしな）ふがゆゑに
鉄釘（くぎ）忽（たちま）ち承器（うけもの）に落下（らくか）してその兆（きざし）を人耳に益（しら）す

現代語訳
【磁石による地震前兆検知法（続き）】
……その音が響くような器（うつわ）を置くべきである。地震がない時は（釘が磁石に）吸い付いたままで、落ちることはない。もし今まさに地震が起ころうとする時には、磁石が鉄を引き付ける力を失うために、鉄釘はたちまち受け皿に落下して、その兆しを人の耳に知らせる。これを地震前知の一つの良法とする。図を見てよく理解されたい、云々。

[Continuation of the Earthquake Precursor Detection Method Using a Magnet]
...One should place beneath it an object that will resound when struck. When there is no earthquake, the nails remain attached [to the magnet] and do not fall. But if an earthquake is about to occur, the magnet loses its power of attraction to iron, causing the iron nails to immediately fall into the receptacle below, thus alerting people through sound of the impending signs. This is considered one excellent method of foreknowing earthquakes. Please examine the figure and understand it well. —Thus it is written.
