The twenty-ninth day of the tenth month of the thirteenth year of Tenshō [1585 CE]: a great earthquake. It did not cease even after the year turned.
The seventeenth year of the same era [1589 CE], second month: a great earthquake in the two provinces of Suruga and Tōtōmi.
The first year of Keichō [1596 CE], intercalary seventh month, twelfth day: a great earthquake. Many people in the Gokinai region perished; particularly in the area of Kyoto and Fushimi, great mansions and commoners' houses alike collapsed, and many were crushed to death beneath the rubble.
