宝暦六年（1756年）七月晦日、近江国で大地震が起きた。
明和八年（1771年）五月二日・六月二日の両度にわたり、江戸で大地震が起きた。
天明二年（1782年）七月十四日、丑の刻に江戸で大地震が起きた。同じく十五日にまた大地震が起こり、民家などが破壊・倒壊した。翌朝にかけて十五、六度の震動があった。このとき相模国小田原は特にひどく、箱根山および小田原城内の石垣が崩れ、城下の民家も多く破損した。この月、下総国では雪が降った。八月四日、江戸の海辺に津波が来襲し、深川洲崎の弁財天の拝殿および末社などが破壊された。本社だけが残り、門前の茶店は破壊・倒壊し、引き波によってことごとく海中に没入し、多くの人が溺死した。

On the last day of the seventh month of the sixth year of Hōreki [1756 CE], a great earthquake struck Ōmi Province.
On the second day of the fifth month and the second day of the sixth month of the eighth year of Meiwa [1771 CE], great earthquakes struck Edo on both occasions.
On the fourteenth day of the seventh month of the second year of Tenmei [1782 CE], at the hour of the Ox, a great earthquake struck Edo. On the fifteenth day of the same month, another great earthquake struck, causing people's homes and other structures to be damaged and toppled. Through the following morning, there were fifteen or sixteen further tremors. At this time, Odawara in Sagami Province was particularly severely affected: the stone walls of Mount Hakone and within Odawara Castle collapsed, and many houses in the castle town were damaged. During this month, snow fell in Shimōsa Province. On the fourth day of the eighth month, a tsunami struck the Edo coastline, destroying the worship hall and subsidiary shrines of the Benzaiten shrine at Fukagawa Susaki. Only the main sanctuary remained. The teahouses in front of the shrine gate were destroyed and toppled, and were utterly swallowed into the sea by the receding waves, with many people drowning.
