数知れぬ人々が皆逃げ出したが、行く先々で地面が割れ、砂を吹き上げ、老若男女ともに足を挟まれ、泥水を吹き出して、往来することもままならない状態でした。風は激しく、その上火の粉が吹き立ち、火炎と煙をかぶりながら、東西南北へと逃げ惑うという、恐ろしいことで、前代未聞の出来事でございます。村上・新発田・与板・長岡・村松・桑名・会津・高崎、その他の御領地からは、御陣屋・御旗本衆が、それぞれに御手当を下さり、ありがたいことでございます。空は曇り、雪が降り出し、寒気がいっそう増してきたため、少し身を隠す場所もなく、立ちすくむこともままならず、次第に風が吹き、凌ぐこともできず、目も当てられない次第でございます。私めの家内はもとより、親類の者に至るまで、怪我人は一人もおらず、どうぞご安心ください。お見舞いの鰹節を冬の間、皆に配分し、おかげさまで元気が増し、ご深慮のほど残らずありがたく
