数知れず、皆々逃げ出し、行く先々では地面が割れて砂を吹き上げ、老若男女ともに足を挟まれ、泥水を吹き出し、往来もままならず、風は激しく、その上に火の粉を吹き立て、火煙をかぶりながら、東西南北へ逃げ惑い、まことに恐ろしいことで、前代未聞の出来事でございました。村上・新発田・与板・長岡・村雲・桑名・会津・高崎、その他各御領の御陣屋・御旗本衆よりそれぞれご支援をいただき、ありがたいことでございました。空は曇り、雪が降り出し、寒気がいよいよ増したため、木陰もなく、その場に立ちとどまることもままならず、次々と風が吹き、しのぐことも叶わず、目も当てられない有様でございました。
私ども家内はもとより、親類一同に至るまで、怪我人は一人もおりませんでしたので、どうぞご安心くださいませ。お見舞いにいただきました鰹（かつお）は、冬の配当として分け合い、おかげさまで元気が増しました。ご深慮の段、残らずありがたく（存じ奉ります）。
