十一月廿二日 宵（よい）より電（いなひかり）強（つよ）く
夜八ッ時 地（ち）鳴（な）る事 雷（らい）の如く
大地震 戸障子（としやうじ）倒（たふ）れ家（いへ）は
小 舩（ふね）の浪（なみ）に動（うご）くかごとく
地（ち）二三寸より所により
五六尺ほどわれ砂（すな）を
もみあげあるひは水を
吹出（ふきだ）したる所もあり
石垣（いしがき）くづれ家蔵（いへくら）つぶ
れ穴蔵（あなくら）ゆりあげ

現代語訳
元禄十六癸未年（1703年）十一月
大地震の図《割書：元禄版絵図》
十一月二十二日、宵（日没後）より稲光が激しく、
夜八つ時（午前二時頃）、地鳴りすること雷の如く、
大地震あり。戸障子は倒れ、家は
小舟が波に揺れるかのごとく（揺れた）。
地面は二、三寸より、所により
五、六尺ほど地割れし、砂を
もみ上げ、あるいは水を
吹き出した所もあり。
石垣は崩れ、家蔵（母屋・蔵）は潰れ、
穴蔵（地下蔵）は揺り上げられた。

The Eleventh Month of Genroku 16, Mizunoto-Hitsuji Year (1703)
A Map of the Great Earthquake《Marginal note: Genroku printed map》
On the twenty-second day of the eleventh month, lightning flashed intensely from early evening.
At the hour of the eighth bell in the night (approximately 2 a.m.), the earth rumbled like thunder,
and a great earthquake struck. Doors and sliding screens fell over, and houses
swayed as if they were small boats tossed upon waves.
The ground cracked open from two or three sun to, depending on the location,
as much as five or six shaku, churning up sand
and in some places
even spurting out water.
Stone walls crumbled, houses and storehouses collapsed,
and underground cellars were heaved upward.
