死者おびただしく、泣き叫ぶ声が街に満ちた。また、あちこちで倒壊した家屋から失火が起こった。八ツ時（午前2時頃）を過ぎると津波があり、房総では人馬が多く死んだ。内川は一杯になり、潮の引き波が四度あった。この時より何度も余震があった。相州小田原は特にひどく、死亡した者はおよそ二千三百人。小田原から品川までで一万五千人、房州で十万人、江戸で三万人（の死者が出た）。

The number of dead was immense, and the sound of crying and screaming filled the streets. Furthermore, fires broke out from collapsed buildings in various places. After the Hour of the Ox (around 2 a.m.), a tsunami struck, and many people and horses in Bōsō perished. The inner waterways filled completely, and the receding waves came four times. From this point on, numerous aftershocks occurred. Sagami Province's Odawara was particularly devastated, with approximately 2,300 dead. From Odawara to Shinagawa, 15,000 people perished; in Bōshū, 100,000; and in Edo, 30,000.
