斑なるもあり表ハ甲高〳〵裏ハ平なり
本のとまりハこぐち《ルビ：陶器｜やきもの》薬をかけ残
したるやうにて 杢茸の根の色あひ
に似たり是を天狗の爪とのミいひ
伝て何の成れる物といふことをハ知らず
或人のいへるハ此物雷の落たる辺また
ハ其処の地を掘て得る物なる故に西国
にてハ雷の爪といふと然らバすなハち唐
の《ルビ：陳蔵器｜ちんぞうき》が本草拾巻に霹靂《ルビ：碪｜ちん》
の中に《ルビ：剉刀｜さとう》に似たるものあり色青黒く
斑文にて至て硬く玉のごとしといへる物
雷震の後に固く得るとなれバ是なるべ
し又阿波の人のいへるハ 元禄の頃阿州
津田山に雷の落たる跡にて種々の失
物を得たり一種ハ長さ三四寸かたち三弦
の《ルビ：撥｜ばち》に似て色ハ《ルビ：尹部｜ゐんべ》の《ルビ：陶器｜やきもの》なとのごとく

現代語訳
まだらなものもある。表面は甲のように盛り上がっており、裏面は平らである。
根元の止まり部分は小口の陶器に薬をかけ残したようで、杢茸の根の色合いに似ている。これを天狗の爪とのみ言い伝えて、何が変化してできた物かということは知らない。
ある人が言うには、この物は雷の落ちた辺りまたはその場所の地を掘って得られる物であるので、西国では雷の爪と言うと。そうであれば、すなわち唐の陳蔵器の『本草拾遺』に「霹靂碪の中に剉刀に似たものがあり、色は青黒く
斑文で極めて硬く玉のようである」と言う物で、雷震の後に必ず得られるとあるので、これであろう。
また阿波の人が言うには、元禄の頃、阿州津田山に雷の落ちた跡で種々の珍しい物を得た。一種は長さ三四寸で形は三味線の撥に似て、色は尹部の陶器などのように紫黒色で石よりも硬いと。これは即ち張華の『博物志』に載る「とこしろの霹靂斧」一名「霹靂楔」というもの、また蔵器の「霹靂碪の斧刀に似たものあり」と

Some have mottled patterns. The surface is raised like a shell, while the back is flat.
The base portion resembles pottery where the glaze has been left unfinished, similar in color to the root of a mokutake mushroom. This is only called "tengu's claw" in oral tradition, but no one knows what substance transformed to create it.
One person said that since this object is obtained by digging in areas where lightning has struck or in the earth of such places, in the western provinces it is called "lightning's claw." If so, then it must be the object described by Chen Zangqi of Tang China in his "Bencao Shiyi" as "something resembling a file-knife found in lightning anvils, blue-black in color
with mottled patterns, extremely hard like jade," which is always found after thunderstorms.
Also, a person from Awa province said that around the Genroku era, various rare objects were found at the site where lightning struck Mount Tsuda in Awa province. One type was three to four inches long, shaped like a shamisen plectrum, purple-black in color like Inbe pottery, and harder than stone. This is precisely what Zhang Hua recorded in his "Bowuzhi" as "the tokoshiro lightning axe," also called "lightning wedge," and what Zangqi described as "something resembling an axe-knife in lightning anvils."
