其頃之茶人各自作
いつの陣中にや細川遊【幽】齋公備列らねたる竹 束（タバ）
の中を茶杓けづらんと見廻られし折柄敵陣中より
飛道具を放ち天窓を摺り抜しとなん
然るに又時代移りて右有名家之真作は却而
清水仁清之銘手に価勝り又楽焼の家を
伝へ茶杓も人々の作者により正金にも越る様に
なれり右は寄沙成遊慰保養になるものと見得
乱世揆擾殺伐烈しき時節にも折々会合
の沙汰も聞伝へ尚旧幕御代に成ては如何成
故か未た其由来は不知宇治の茶師数名
御扶持を賜り江戸は数多の御茶方ありて
新茶調進之道中には御茶壷と称して
絵符を立威光厳敷杖払大名高家之
差別なく都而免さぬ下乗下馬に諸侯之
向は道を除け出逢をはづして扣させ軽
輩と見し宰領も意外之権勢にてありき
一寸一言不審 此不少なる事件を御茶でもないと
いふは如何なる間違にやおかし
又旧藩に而も知行取初士分之御茶道

その頃の茶人たちは各自で作っていた。
いつの陣中でのことか、細川幽斎公が備列していたところ、竹束の中を茶杓を削ろうと見回していた折、敵陣中より飛び道具を放ち、天窓を擦り抜けたということである。
しかしながら、また時代が移って、右の有名家の真作はかえって清水仁清の銘手に価格で勝り、また楽焼の家を伝え、茶杓も人々の作者により正金にも越えるようになった。これは些細な遊戯・慰めの保養になるものと見えるが、乱世の騒擾で殺伐たる激しい時節にも折々会合の話も聞き伝え、なお旧幕府の御代になってはいかなる故か、未だその由来は知らないが、宇治の茶師数名が御扶持を賜り、江戸には数多くの御茶方があって、新茶調進の道中には「御茶壺」と称して絵札を立て、威光厳しく杖払いし、大名・高家の差別なく、すべて免さない下乗・下馬とし、諸侯の向きは道を除け、出逢いを外して控えさせ、軽輩と見なした宰領も意外の権勢であった。
一寸一言不審 この少なからぬ事件を「御茶でもない」というのはいかなる間違いか、おかしなことである。

The tea masters of that time each made their own.
During some military campaign, Lord Hosokawa Yūsai was deployed in formation when he was looking around in a bundle of bamboo to carve a tea scoop, and at that moment projectiles were fired from the enemy camp, scraping through the skylight.
However, as times changed again, the genuine works of the aforementioned famous houses came to surpass even the renowned craftsmanship of Kiyomizu Ninsei in value, and the raku pottery houses continued their traditions. Tea scoops too, depending on their makers, came to exceed even pure gold in value. While this appears to be merely trivial amusement and recreational cultivation, even during the turbulent and violent times of civil war, we occasionally hear accounts of gatherings. Furthermore, in the era of the former shogunate, for reasons still unknown to us, several tea masters from Uji received stipends, and in Edo there were numerous official tea masters. During the transport of new tea, they would display banners called "honorable tea jars" with strict authority, clearing the way with staffs. Without distinction between daimyo and court nobles, they enforced mandatory dismounting from horses and palanquins for all, made feudal lords step aside from the road and wait while avoiding encounters, and even officials who appeared to be of low rank wielded unexpected power.
A brief question: Calling this significant matter "not worth a cup of tea" seems to be some kind of mistake - how peculiar.
