家内諸共出迎ひて、不断に馴たる挨拶に、
包み杖傘持添て、ほどよき部屋に案内し、
衣桁風呂棚箱火鉢、鉄瓶水指煎茶碗、
急須其外一ト世帯、調度揃へて出せしも、
元より保養の身にしあれは、世話や指図の
うるさきまゝ、悉皆宿へ任も、心よく湯に
入相為、夜食たうべて又湯に入しが、いづ
この宿も客少なく、分けて在所の知る人
あらねは、誰れか語らふ友もがなと、心淋しく
頭をたれ、けふ来しかたの道すから、雪と
花とに開けしを、又もや塞く事かはと、
のたまへるかと見るばかり、幾世か深き
御なじみの月の御影を我と倶に温泉の
中へうつさせ玉ふ難有さに
月も我を衰と見てや照しけん
ひとり寂しき山代の宿
斯く道すからの出たらめを筆記して
長途の疲れに熟睡し一夜を明せしが
折よくも我宗流当所専光寺に来る五日迄
法座の掛札あるをもて日々不闕参詣せしに

家族一同が出迎えて、いつものように慣れ親しんだ挨拶をし、包みや杖、傘を持って手伝い、程よい部屋に案内してくれた。衣桁、風呂棚、箱、火鉢、鉄瓶、水指、煎茶碗、急須その他一式、調度品一揃いを用意して出してくれたが、元より保養のための身であるので、世話や指図が煩わしいまま、すべて宿に任せて、心よく湯に入り、夕食を食べてまた湯に入った。どこの宿も客が少なく、特に土地の知り合いもいないので、誰か語り合う友もいないものかと、心寂しく頭を垂れ、今日来た道すがら、雪と花とに心が開けたのを、またもや塞ぐことがあろうかと、おっしゃるかのように見えるばかり、幾世も深い御馴染みの月の御影を私と共に温泉の中に映させ給う有り難さよ。

このように道中のたわいもないことを筆記して、長い道のりの疲れでぐっすり眠り一夜を明かしたが、折よく我が宗派の当所専光寺に来る五日まで法座の掛札があるのを見て、日々欠かさず参詣した。

The family all came out to greet me, exchanging familiar greetings as usual. They helped carry my bundle, walking stick, and umbrella, and guided me to a suitable room. They prepared and brought out a complete set of furnishings: clothing rack, bath shelf, boxes, brazier, iron kettle, water jar, tea bowls, teapot, and other household items. Since I was there primarily for recuperation, I found their care and instructions somewhat bothersome, so I left everything to the inn's management and enjoyed soaking in the hot springs. After dinner, I bathed again. There were few guests at any of the inns, and I knew no one in the area, so I felt lonely, hanging my head and wondering if there might be someone to talk with. Along the road I had traveled today, my heart had opened to the snow and flowers, but now I wondered if it might close again. It seemed as if the moon, with whom I had a deep familiarity spanning many lifetimes, was graciously reflecting its sacred light together with me into the hot spring waters.

Having written down such random thoughts from my journey, I fell into deep sleep from the fatigue of the long road and passed the night. Fortunately, there was a notice posted that dharma sessions of my sect would be held at the local Senkoji Temple until the fifth day, so I attended without fail each day.
