世上之俗談に雑れし滑稽之珍話抔聞つ
語りつ病苦を散し又退屈之間々綴りもし
書もせはや持越せし温故帖之草稿見

ひけ長く命もなかき稀人は
玉のたからて福井玉篇
うらしまにあらく福井の寺しまは
玉手箱ともなせる寄せ章

かくなん祝し玉わりしをありかたく

いまの節用なき老を御引たて

このように書いたのは六日のことでしたが、ここにまた松永老君と奥田先生が、私と二三日前から荒屋にいらっしゃるということで、話をしに来てくださいと懇切に仰ってくださったものですから、折々行き来して、今度の紀行文やこれまでの狂歌、世間の俗談に交じった滑稽な珍しい話などを聞いたり語ったりして病気の苦しみを紛らわし、また退屈な合間に綴ったり書いたりして、早々に持ち越した「温故帖」の草稿をお見せしたところ、
髭が長く命も長い稀有な人は
宝玉の宝で福井玉篇（寺嶋）
浦島太郎ではないが福井の寺嶋は
玉手箱をも成す寄せ集めの文章
云々菴
このように祝ってくださったのを有り難く恐縮して、
今の節用（辞書）に用のない老人をお引き立てくださり

I am also happily writing this down hastily.
I wrote this on the sixth day, but here again, Master Matsunaga and Teacher Okuda kindly urged me to come and talk, saying they had been staying in Araya for two or three days before me. So I would visit back and forth occasionally, and we would listen to and tell stories—this travel journal, my previous kyōka poems, amusing and curious tales mixed with worldly gossip—thus dispelling the suffering of illness and also writing and composing during boring intervals. When I showed them the draft of my "Onko-chō" (Collection of Warm Antiquities) that I had hastily brought over:
A rare person with long whiskers and long life
Is a jeweled treasure, the Fukui Gyokuhen (Terashima)
Not Urashima Tarō, but Terashima of Fukui
Creates even a treasure box with his collected writings
Unu-an
They honored me with such verses, for which I was grateful and humbled, and responded:
You lift up this old man who has no use in today's Setsuyō dictionary
To call me "Gyokuhen" is truly humbling Grandfather
