又ふる時雨の音に、一入長き夜もすがら、
寝られぬまゝに筆取出し、堪へぬ心を
綴らんと、言うべき思ひ有明の、行煙の
火もかきたてゝ眠りもやらで明せしが、
暁頃より空晴て、次第にあがる快天故、
けふは是非とも来らんと、戸口へ出て立つ
居つ、待てとも見へぬ黄昏過、七時頃
にも有なんか、安否を問んと郵便を、認
ばやと思ひし折しも、迎ひ来ると
あるじの言葉に、矢立の筆も取あへず、
飛て出たるうれしさは、地獄は知らず此世
にて、親に逢たる心地せり、車夫は支度を
直しつゝ酒飯畢りて臥戸に入、寝物語りに
時間を移し、今夜熟く一寝入りも、暁
告る鶏の声に、とく起出て湯に入しも、
今を限りと名残おしまれ、二度迄いりて
飯をたべ宿料茶代に取添て、猶繁昌
を祝する狂歌、前書は略して書やらす、
爰に評判吉田屋は旅籠でもよし
何でもよし、実意でよし故気楽でよし、

また降る時雨の音に、ひとしお長い夜もすがら、眠れないままに筆を取り出し、堪えきれない心を綴ろうと、言うべき思いがある有明の月のもと、行火の火もかき立てて眠りもせずに明かしたが、暁頃より空が晴れて、次第に上がる快晴のため、今日は是非とも来るだろうと、戸口へ出て立ったり座ったりして、待てども見えない黄昏過ぎ、七時頃にもなったであろうか、安否を問おうと郵便を書こうと思った折しも、迎えが来ると主人の言葉に、矢立の筆も取る間もなく、飛んで出た嬉しさは、地獄は知らずこの世にて、親に逢った心地がした。車夫は支度を直しつつ酒飯を済ませて寝床に入り、寝物語に時間を過ごし、今夜よく一眠りして、暁を告げる鶏の声に、早く起き出て湯に入ったが、今を限りと名残惜しまれ、二度まで入って飯を食べ、宿料茶代に取り添えて、なお繁昌を祝する狂歌、前書きは略して書き表さず、ここに評判の吉田屋は旅籠でもよし何でもよし、実意でよし故気楽でよし。

Again, to the sound of the falling winter shower, throughout the especially long night, unable to sleep, I took out my brush and tried to write down my unbearable feelings. With thoughts that needed expressing under the light of the pre-dawn moon, I stoked the brazier fire and spent the night without sleep. But from around daybreak the sky cleared, and with the weather gradually improving to fine conditions, thinking that today they would surely come, I went to the entrance and stood and sat alternately. Though I waited, they didn't appear past twilight—it must have been around seven o'clock. Just as I was thinking of writing a postal inquiry about their safety, when the innkeeper said the carriage had come, without even time to take up my writing brush from its case, I flew out in such joy that, not knowing hell but in this world, I felt as if I had met my parents. The driver arranged his preparations, finished his meal and drink and went to bed. We passed time in bedside conversation, and after a good night's sleep, at the cock's crow announcing dawn, I rose early and bathed. As this was the final moment, I felt reluctant to part, bathing twice and eating my meal. Adding to the lodging fee and tip, I composed a kyōka celebrating continued prosperity, though I omit writing the preface here. The renowned Yoshidaya inn here is good as a lodging, good for anything, good in sincerity, therefore comfortable and pleasant.
