一中古以来之御趣意又追々時体之形勢により
　後世知る人の無き様になれる事々物々或は
　画き或は書綴りて永世末々迄伝へんとす
　希は今後此実意を請伝へ無懈怠書継あ

現代語訳

後世に跡形も残らない部分

一、中古以来の御趣意、まただんだんと時代の形勢により、後世に知る人がいないようになってしまった事々物々を、あるいは絵に描き、あるいは文章に書き綴って、永遠に末々まで伝えようとするものである。希望するのは、今後この真意を受け継いで、怠ることなく書き継いでいくことである。

Things that will leave no trace for future generations

This work aims to preserve various matters and things from ancient times onward—whether based on past imperial intentions or gradually changing due to the circumstances of the times—that would otherwise be forgotten by future generations, by either drawing them in pictures or writing them down in text, so that they may be transmitted to the distant future. My hope is that from now on, people will inherit this sincere intention and continue writing without negligence.
