覆水（ふくすい）重（かさね）て盆（ぼん）に収（おさま）らず
大公望（たいこうばう）は東征大軍師（とうせいだいぐんし）となつて紂王（ちうわう）が乱（らん）を平（たいら）げしかば
武王（ぶわう）帝位（ていゐ）に即（つ）き太公望（たいこうばう）を斉（せい）といふ大国（たいこく）の主（あるじ）とし給ふに
よつて太公（たいこう）其（その）身（み）には錦繍（にしき）【綉は繍の俗字】を着（ちやく）し四馬（しめ）の車（くるま）に乗（の）り数（す）
千の卿太夫（けいたいふ）士卒（しそつ）を召（めし）つれ旗旌（きせい）を空（そら）にひるがへし金（かね）鼓（つゞみ）【皷は俗字】を
鳴（なら）し傍（あたり）を払（はらつ）て本国（ほんごく）に趣（おもむ）かれし所に始（はじめ）離別（りべつ）したる妻（つま）
の馬氏（ばし）此よしを聞（き）き路（みち）の側（かたはら）に出迎（いでむか）ひ車（くるま）の前（まへ）に至（いた）り涙（なみだ）を
ながし妾（われ）智恵（ちゑ）浅（あさく）して先（さき）に離別（りべつ）をなしいま後悔（こうくわい）するに
かひなし願（ねが）はくは我（わ）が先非（せんひ）をゆるし再（ふたゝ）びみやづかへせしめ
たまへといふ太公望すなはち盆（ぼん）に水（みづ）を入させ。これを地（ち）に
覆（こぼ）してまた盆（ぼん）に入よといふに妻（つま）すなはち其言（そのことば）の如（ごとく）に
すれば。唯（たゞ）泥（どろ）のみ盆（ぼん）にあり。太公望のいわく一旦（いつたん）離別（りべつ）
してふたゝび相合（あひあふ）べからず覆水（ふくすい）かさねて盆（ぼん）に收（おさ）まらざ

覆水盆に返らず
太公望は東征の大軍師となって紂王の乱を平定したので、武王が帝位に即き、太公望を斉という大国の主とされた。そこで太公は身に錦の衣を着て、四頭立ての馬車に乗り、数千の卿大夫や兵士を引き連れ、旗を空になびかせ、金や太鼓を鳴らし、辺りを威圧して本国に向かわれた。その時、以前に離別した妻の馬氏がこのことを聞き、道の脇に出迎え、車の前に至って涙を流し、「私は知恵が浅くて先に離別をしてしまい、今後悔していますが甲斐がありません。どうか私の過ちをお許しになり、再びお仕えさせてください」と言った。太公望は盆に水を入れさせ、これを地面にこぼして「また盆に入れよ」と言うと、妻がその言葉の通りにすると、ただ泥だけが盆にあった。太公望が言うには「一度離別すれば再び相合うべきではない。覆水が再び盆に収まらないのと同じである」と。車を進めて斉に入り、妻は悔いと恥じて自ら首を吊って死んだ。
【左丁】
周公旦 文王の子、武王の弟にして大聖人である。武王が崩御され、成王が幼年で即位されたため、周公旦が政治を摂政された。魯侯の元祖である。史記の世家に、周公は冢宰の位にあること七年の後、政治を成王にお返しし、北面して臣下の位に就き、つつしまれることは恐れるようであったとある。享年八十三歳で薨去された。

Spilled water cannot return to the basin
Duke Tai Gong Wang became the grand strategist of the eastern expedition and pacified the rebellion of King Zhou, so King Wu ascended to the imperial throne and made Tai Gong Wang the lord of the great state of Qi. Thus, Tai Gong dressed himself in brocade robes, rode in a carriage drawn by four horses, led several thousand ministers and soldiers, unfurled banners in the sky, sounded gongs and drums, and proceeded majestically to his homeland. At that time, his former wife Lady Ma, from whom he had separated earlier, heard of this and came out to meet him by the roadside. She approached the front of his carriage, shed tears, and said, "I was shallow in wisdom and caused our separation earlier. Now I regret it, but it is useless. Please forgive my past wrongs and allow me to serve you again." Tai Gong Wang had a basin filled with water, spilled it on the ground, and said, "Put it back in the basin." When his wife did as he said, only mud remained in the basin. Tai Gong Wang said, "Once separated, we should not reunite again. It is like spilled water that cannot return to the basin." He pressed on his carriage and entered Qi, while his wife, filled with regret and shame, hanged herself and died.

Duke of Zhou Dan Son of King Wen, younger brother of King Wu, and a great sage. When King Wu passed away and King Cheng ascended to the throne at a young age, Duke of Zhou Dan served as regent. He was the founding ancestor of the Marquis of Lu. According to the Records of the Grand Historian's "Hereditary Houses," Duke of Zhou held the position of chief minister for seven years, then returned political power to King Cheng, faced north as a vassal, and served with reverence as if in fear. He died at the age of eighty-three.

The praise says:
His surname was Ji, his name Dan, younger
brother of King Wu. He bore the responsibility of the court and served as regent,
composed music and established rituals. The two uncles were
not reconciled, dwelling in the east with resentment. He opened the golden
coffer to reveal his loyalty, thunder and rain responded
swiftly. In ceremonial robes he spoke of returning—
why should there be illness? He established sacrifices in the
state of Lu, a primordial sage for a thousand generations.
