欽賜蠎縀等項並妃綵縀等物此誠
天朝之殊恩而《割書：臣｜》敬永代之榮光也竊惟
皇上覆載無外
覃恩於弱小之邦使臣衝風破浪艱險驚虞莫此爲甚
　使臣入國以來撫綏海邦約束兵役舉國臣民無不
　感仰惟《割書：臣｜》敬所深愧者《割書：臣｜》國邊海荒野無以將敬故
　於宴欵之際代物以金雖自知乎菲薄實是緣以爲
　例乃辱使臣屢辭往還再三堅持大義固却不受在
　使臣氷兢自矢允矣有耻不辱爲
聖朝使節之光矣但念使臣間關勞瘁遠涉萬里風濤
　實爲臣躬之故藉物表敬禮不將儀心竊難安至臨
　行時復將屢宴前金特差法司大夫長史等官專送
　懇受使臣復遣送還淸白之操可謂始終靡間獨是
　微臣酬德報功莫展萬一殊慚舊禮有闕寸志莫伸

現代語訳

諭祭を蒙る。曾祖琉球国中山王尚貞、復た諭祭を蒙る。父琉球国王尚益、続いて七月二十六日に詔勅を宣読し、臣敬を封じて中山王と為し、欽賜の蟒袍等の項並びに妃の綵袍等の物を荷授するを蒙る。此れ誠に天朝の殊恩にして、臣敬永代の栄光なり。窃かに惟うに、皇上覆載外無く、恩を弱小の邦に覃ぼし、使臣風を衝き浪を破り、艱険驚虞此れより甚だしきは莫し。

使臣国に入りてより以来、海邦を撫綏し兵役を約束し、挙国臣民感仰せざる無し。惟だ臣敬の深く愧づる所の者は、臣が国は海に辺し荒野にして以て敬を将する無く、故に宴款の際、物に代うるに金を以てす。自ら菲薄なるを知ると雖も、実に是れ例に縁りて為すなり。乃ち使臣を辱め屡々辞し往還再三大義を堅持し固く却けて受けず。使臣の氷兢自矢するに在りて、允に耻有りて辱しめず、聖朝使節の光為り。但だ念うに、使臣間関労瘁し遠く万里の風濤を涉るは、実に臣躬の故の為なり。物に藉りて敬を表し、礼儀を将せざれば、心窃かに安んじ難し。行を臨む時に至りて、復た将に屡宴の前金、特に法司大夫長史等の官を差し専送して懇受せしめんとするに、使臣復た遣送して還す。清白の操、始終間無き謂う可し。独り是れ微臣徳に酬い功に報ゆること万一を展ぶること莫く、殊に慚づ。旧礼闕有りて寸志伸ぶること莫し。

英語訳

[I] was blessed to receive imperial sacrificial rites for my great-grandfather, Chūzan King of Ryukyu Kingdom Shō Tei, and again blessed to receive imperial sacrificial rites for my father, King of Ryukyu Kingdom Shō Eki. Subsequently, on the twenty-sixth day of the seventh month, the imperial edict was proclaimed, investing subject Kei as Chūzan King and bestowing imperial gifts of python robes and other items, as well as colored robes and other objects for the queen. This is truly the special grace of the Celestial Court and the eternal glory of subject Kei. I humbly reflect that His Majesty's benevolence covers all without exception, extending grace to this small and weak nation. The envoys braved winds and waves, with hardships and perils none greater than these.

Since the envoys entered the kingdom, they have pacified and comforted this maritime realm, disciplined the military forces, and there is not a single subject or commoner in the entire nation who does not feel grateful reverence. However, what subject Kei deeply feels ashamed about is that this subject's kingdom borders the sea in wilderness, with nothing adequate to express respect. Therefore, during banquet occasions, gold was substituted for material gifts. Although I knew this was meager, it was indeed done following precedent. Yet this dishonored the envoys, who repeatedly declined, going back and forth three times, firmly upholding great righteousness and resolutely refusing to accept. The envoys maintained their ice-like integrity and self-restraint - truly having honor without disgrace, bringing glory to their role as envoys of the Sacred Dynasty. However, I reflect that the envoys endured hardships traveling through passes and traversing ten thousand li of wind and waves, truly for the sake of this subject personally. Without borrowing material objects to express respect and without proper ceremonial decorum, my heart secretly cannot find peace. When it came time for departure, I again specially dispatched officials including the Chief Legal Officer, Grand Master, and Chief Secretary to personally deliver the gold from previous banquets with earnest entreaty for acceptance, yet the envoys again sent it back. Their pure and incorruptible conduct can be said to be consistent from beginning to end. It is only that this humble subject cannot repay virtue or requite merit even one ten-thousandth, which is especially shameful. With deficiencies in old ceremonies, my sincere intentions cannot be expressed.
