現代語訳
この三国通覧図説は、私が敢えて経済について論じるものではなく、また軽々しく地理学を弄ぶものでもない。ただ武家に仕える人に三つの隣国の地理を知らせたいと思うだけである。これは武芸の余技のように見えるかもしれないが、しかし私がひそかに思うには、かえって武門の奥義とも言えるのではないだろうか。読者はこれを経済書とみなしてはならない。同年、林子平自ら一句を跋に述べることは以上である。

英語訳
This "Illustrated Account of Three Countries" is not my attempt to discourse on economics, nor is it a frivolous dabbling in geographical studies. I merely wish to inform those who serve in military houses about the geography of our three neighboring countries. Though this may appear to be a diversion from martial arts, I secretly believe it could rather be called the profound essence of the military way. Readers should not regard this as a book on economics. In the same year, Hayashi Shihei himself states this single passage in the postscript.
