国ハ壌ヲ本邦ニ接シテ実ニ隣境ノ国也。蓋本邦ノ人。無＿二貴
賤＿一無＿二文武＿一知ベキモノハ此三国ノ地理也是ヲ諳ルトキハ治
乱ニツイテ不＿レ迷不＿レ疑。万機施シ易シテ時有テ力ヲ陳ベク
時有テ知テ楽ムベシ。且政ニ従テ三国ニ入ル人有トモ此図ヲ
懐ニスルトキハ三国ノ分内了然トシテ目睫ニ在ガ如ク泰
然トシテ彼コニ至ルベシ是小子此図ヲ作テ世人ニ示ス

万国ノ輿地。知ニ如ハナシ然レドモ強テ泥ムトキハ必鑿

現代語訳
国は土地を本邦に接しており、実に隣境の国である。思うに本邦の人は、貴賤を問わず、文武を問わず、知るべきものはこの三国の地理である。これを熟知するときは、治乱について迷わず疑わない。万機施しやすく、時には力を発揮すべき時があり、時には知って楽しむべき時がある。また、政務に従って三国に入る人があっても、この図を懐中にするときは、三国の境界が明瞭となって目の前にあるかのようになり、泰然としてそこに至ることができる。これが私がこの図を作って世人に示すところである。少しく武術に補益があるようである。
万国の地理は、知ることに如くはない。しかしながら、強いて固執するときは必ず穿鑿に陥る。ただその方位・大小・寒暖・強弱等の大略を知って足りるべきである。
本邦の図は、ただその四方の渡海の国の港口のみを図して、全形を挙げない。

These countries border our nation territorially and are truly neighboring countries. I believe that the people of our country, regardless of noble or humble status, regardless of civil or military position, should know the geography of these three countries. When one is thoroughly familiar with this, one will not be confused or doubtful about times of order and disorder. All affairs become easy to implement, and there are times when one should demonstrate strength and times when one should know and take pleasure. Moreover, even when people enter the three countries on official business, if they carry this map with them, the boundaries of the three countries will become clear as if they were right before their eyes, and they can proceed there with composure. This is what I intend by creating this map and showing it to the people of the world. It seems to provide some benefit to military arts.
Regarding the geography of all nations, nothing surpasses knowing it. However, when one stubbornly adheres to details, one inevitably falls into pedantic hair-splitting. It is sufficient to know only the general outline of direction, size, climate, strength and weakness, and so forth.
The map of our country shows only the ports of the overseas countries in all four directions, and does not present the complete form.
