是元ヨリ本邦ノ全図。世ニ多クシテ且近頃。水府ノ赤水著

これは元より本邦の全図が世に多くあり、かつ近頃、水戸藩の長久保赤水が著した詳細で精密な図があるからである。本邦の地理を知ろうと欲する者は、赤水の図に依るべきである。
この数か国の図は、私が敢えて杜撰に作ったものではない。朝鮮の図は、朝鮮の大象胥（通訳官）が伝えたもので、長崎の人である楢林氏が秘蔵する珍しい図があり、これを根拠とする。琉球については元より『中山伝信録』があり、これを証拠とする。蝦夷については古くから自分が所有している図が一つあり、今また新たに三つの図を得た。大同小異ではあるが、皆証拠とするに足りている。加えて新井白石先生の『蝦夷志』及び採金業者が著した『北海随筆』等を用いて考証し、間々また北海の船人の説を交えて記すのみである。無人島については長崎の島

This is because there are already many complete maps of our country in the world, and recently there is a detailed and precise map authored by Nagakubo Sekisui of the Mito domain. Those who wish to know the geography of our country should rely on Sekisui's map.
These maps of several countries are not something I have dared to create carelessly. The map of Korea is based on what was transmitted by Korean grand interpreters, and there is a rare map secretly treasured by Mr. Narabayashi, a person from Nagasaki, which I use as my source. For Ryukyu, there has always been the "Chuzan denshinroku" (Record of the Imperial Mission to Chuzan), which I use as evidence. For Ezo, I have long possessed one map, and now I have newly obtained three more maps. Though they show major similarities with minor differences, they all serve as sufficient evidence. In addition, I use Master Arai Hakuseki's "Ezo-shi" (Record of Ezo) and "Hokkai zuihitsu" (Northern Sea Essays) written by gold miners to make determinations, and occasionally I also include accounts from northern sea sailors.
