この国の西端にある義州から遼東に至るまでは朝鮮の里で五十里、北京に至るまでは同じく二百五十里である。
この国は豊臣秀吉が征伐した頃までは風俗が軟弱で武備についても現在のように充実していなかったため、八道すべてがわずか三ヶ月の間に陥落させられた。その後大いに反省し悔い改めたと思われ、代々武事を研究して、今では水軍・陸軍の備えがよく整っている。

Until the time of Taiko's conquest, this country had weak customs and military preparations were not as substantial as they are today. Therefore, all eight provinces were conquered in merely three months. Afterward, they seem to have greatly reflected and repented, and successive generations have studied military arts, so that now their naval and land defenses are well organized.
