その国には医薬がない。病気があるときは、ただ祈祷があるのみである。しかしながら、どのような神に祈るのかは分からない。推測するに、天に祈るのであろうという。○小子（私）が考えるに、全く医薬がないというわけでもない。イケマ、エブリコの二薬を用いて腹痛や切り傷などを治療することがあるという。この二薬については下の産物の項目に記す。
その国には木綿や絹織物がない。その服はアツシといって、藤蔓のような植物の皮を剥いで粗く織って用いる。その織り目は筵のようで、その形は腰丈で筒袖である。これを十徳という。この物だけが蝦夷固有の衣服である。この他は獣皮を用いる。また近年は、本邦および唐山（中国）、満洲、ムスコウビア（ロシア）等の古着を渡して着させている。そのため、一家の内でも父子兄弟がそれぞれ異なる服装を

That country has no medicine. When there is illness, there is only prayer. However, it is unknown to what kind of god they pray. It is surmised that they probably pray to heaven. ○In my humble opinion, it is not that there is absolutely no medicine at all. It is said that they sometimes treat stomach aches and cuts using two medicines called Ikema and Eburiko. These two medicines are recorded in the section on products below.
That country has no cotton or silk fabrics. Their clothing is called "attushi," made by stripping the bark of vine-like plants and weaving it coarsely. The weave resembles matting, and the garment is hip-length with tubular sleeves. This is called "jittoku." This item alone is the native clothing of the Ezo. Besides this, they use animal hides. Also in recent years, they have been given second-hand clothes from our country as well as China, Manchuria, Muscovy (Russia), and other places to wear. Therefore, even within one household, fathers, sons, and brothers wear different styles of clothing.
