現代語訳
という。さて、このカムシカツトカより東には攻略すべき土地がない。故に再び西に目を向けて、あの千島を手に入れる機会（きざし）があると思われる。その理由は、千島の極東に、ラッコ島一名クルムセという一大島がある（クルムセはカムシカツトカの別名である。ラッコ島がカムシカツトカに近いため、蝦夷人が混同して、この島もクルムセと称するのである）。
この島も彼らの手に入ったと思われ、近頃はこの島にモスコビア人が多く居住しているということである。これを拠点（基地）として、この頃は蝦夷に近いエトロフ島に来て交易をしている（この交易品の中に胡椒・砂糖・猩々緋のような南海の産物が混じっているという。その南国の産品がこの地に来る理由はいかなるものか、考察の余地がある）。しかしながら、その交易に来る本当の心はかり知れない。もしかすると、エトロフ島を呑み込む意図があるのではないだろうか。さて、どこの国から来るのかと問えば「オロシヤ」と答えると蝦夷人が語ると聞く。
