である（按ずるに、オロシヤはルシヤの一転語であろう。なぜかといえば、ルシヤというのはモスコビアの都城の地であって、日本の江戸というようなものである。蝦夷人が何国から来たのかと問われたとき、ルシヤと答えたのを、オロシヤと聞き受けたことだと思われる）。
その服装はオランダの服に似ているが、色はすべて赤色を用いる。そのため蝦夷人等はこれを「ホリ・シイ・シャモ」と称する（一統に赤色の服を用いることも、あの女帝の制令である。蝦夷語で赤いことを「ホリ」といい、善を「シイ」といい、人を「シャモ」という。ホリシイシャモは赤色の良い人という意味で、あの赤色の人に親しみを込めた言葉である）。
