現代語訳
下級のアイヌ人。獣皮を着た姿である。被っている物は日本の雪帽子も用い、また自国でも作る。
中下級の者たちが帯びる脇差を「タシロ」あるいは「マキリ」と言う。皆日本から渡したものである。出刃包丁の類で、すべて酒田打ちである。
中下級の拵えは白鞘で、桜の皮を以って巻く。その身は甚だ生臭い。
英語訳
A lower-class Ainu person wearing animal hides. The headgear they wear includes Japanese snow caps, and they also make their own in their country.
The short swords worn by the middle and lower class people are called "tashiro" or "makiri." All of these are imported from Japan. They are similar to kitchen knives and are all made in Sakata style.
The middle and lower class sword mountings have white scabbards wrapped with cherry bark. Their bodies smell very fishy.
