一 重詰めの数品を一部ずつ上中下に分ける。ただし、見出しに「九種」とあって、その品が八つある場合は、その下に春は何、夏は何、秋は何、冬は何と記す。品を一つずつ組み合わせるのである。四季を分けるためであり、七種・五種についても同様である。
一 初重は魚類、二重目は精進料理、三重目は生詰め、四重目は蒸し物・菓子という構成にしている。また初重に魚と精進を詰め合わせにして、三重目を刺身類にした場合もある。これは他の家へ送る重箱と雛祭りの重箱等の類で、先方で都合がよいように魚と精進を分け、花見遊山等の重箱は自分の都合によるのでこれを分けずに詰め合わせにしたものである。
一 生詰めは先方で煮たり焼いたりする所でなければ詰めない。よって野辺の旅や迎えの重箱等にはこれはない。ただし産見舞いの重箱には生詰めをしない。これは病気の家で取り込み中の時節であるから。

General Rules
1. The various dishes for layered food boxes (jūzume) are divided into upper, middle, and lower sections, one portion each. However, when the heading shows "nine varieties" but there are actually eight items, underneath it will indicate what is for spring, what is for summer, what is for autumn, and what is for winter. The items are combined one by one. This is to distinguish the four seasons, and the same applies to seven varieties and five varieties.
1. The first layer contains fish dishes, the second layer vegetarian dishes, the third layer raw ingredients, and the fourth layer steamed items and sweets. There are also cases where fish and vegetarian dishes are combined in the first layer, making the third layer sashimi and similar dishes. This is for food boxes sent to other houses and boxes for the Doll Festival, etc., where fish and vegetarian dishes are separated for the convenience of the recipient. For food boxes for cherry blossom viewing and excursions, since it's for one's own convenience, they are combined without separation.
1. Raw ingredients are only included when the destination has facilities for cooking and grilling. Therefore, boxes for countryside travel or welcoming ceremonies do not include these. However, raw ingredients are not included in boxes for visiting after childbirth, as this is during a busy time when the household is dealing with illness.
