現代語訳
猿と蛇は相州霧島へ行き、魚好和尚を勧めていろいろとだまして受けて頼んだところ、住持が得心したので、「それならば当三月より四月まで夜数六十夜の間、開帳にいたすべし」と相談が決まり、「近々に向かいに参るべし」と言って帰った。それから急に札を作って、諸々へ高札を立てる。
「これはとんだことだ。俺もいい合わせて良い参りをしようぜ。」
「これは珍しいことだ。だんだん暖かになるから、いい時分だ。はやりましょう。」

「とうとう開帳があるそうでございます。」
「遠方から沙汰があった。ありがたい。」
「地蔵様だそうだ。はやりましょう。」
「はあ、霊宝もいろいろあるそうだ。」

The monkey and snake went to Kirishima in Sagami Province and recommended the Fish-Loving Monk, deceiving him in various ways and making their request. When the head priest agreed, they decided, "In that case, we shall hold a temple exhibition from this March to April for sixty nights." They said, "We shall come soon to prepare," and returned home. Then they hurriedly made signs and put up notice boards in various places.
"This is quite something! I too should time it well and make a good pilgrimage."
"This is unusual indeed. Since it's gradually getting warmer, it's a good season. It will surely be popular."
