一元禄五申七月五日 御台所頭九左衛門忰
御切米十二石三人扶持被下置候 吉田藤助
但親九左衛門御切米は十八石三人ふち
右親九左衛門当夏病死仕候に付忰義右之通御擬作被下被召出候先只今は小算之相勤候義共勤候様に可申付旨松平庄兵衛酒井与三左衛門ゟ申来候に付其段藤助に
申渡候様に今日御奉行蟹江刑部右衛門へ申渡之但江戸ゟは為跡目被下候旨申来候へ共各別に 御意と有之候へは勿論之義に候へ共無左候而は軽き役人跡目御立被下と
被 仰渡例無之に付猶又蟹江刑部右衛門に吟味仕候様にと申聞候処惣而跡目と有之候へは親果候節ゟ之御扶持方被下置跡目と無之候へは其被召出日より之ふち
方被下法之由近年御大工頭高間与一郎忰荒子頭久保村弥右衛門忰御擬作被下節跡目とは不被仰渡候へ共御扶持方切目なしに跡目同事に被下候例有
之由申達候に付今日は先被召出と迄申聞置其趣江戸へ申達也【ここ迄朱記】

一元禄五年申年七月五日 台所頭九左衛門の息子
切米十二石三人扶持を下され置かれる候 吉田藤助
但し親九左衛門の切米は十八石三人扶持
右の親九左衛門が当夏病死いたしましたにつき、息子の儀は右の通り擬作を下され召し出されました。先ずは今のところは小算の相勤めなど勤めるようにと申し付けるべき旨、松平庄兵衛・酒井与三左衛門より申し来ましたにつき、その段を藤助に申し渡すように今日奉行蟹江刑部右衛門へ申し渡しました。但し江戸からは跡目として下される旨申し来ましたが、格別の御意向がございましたら勿論のことですが、そうでなければ軽い役人の跡目をお立て下されると仰せ渡される例はございませんにつき、なお蟹江刑部右衛門に吟味いたすようにと申し聞かせましたところ、総じて跡目ということでございましたら親が亡くなった時からの扶持方を下され置かれ、跡目でなければその召し出された日からの扶持方を下される法であるとのこと。近年、大工頭高間与一郎の息子、荒子頭久保村弥右衛門の息子に擬作を下された節、跡目とは仰せ渡されませんでしたが、扶持方は切れ目なしに跡目と同じように下された例がある由申し達しましたにつき、今日は先ず召し出されるまでと申し聞かせ置き、その趣を江戸へ申し達しました【ここまで朱記】

一寛文十一年亥年十月、左の通り仰せ出された趣を本多左近方奉行へ申し渡されました

一小役人の跡は小算に、小算の跡は手代に仰せ付けられるのが定めであると奉行加藤長右衛門が申しました。しかし古法は右のいずれも跡は相立てず、中古より右の如くです。もっとも小算の内にも代々小算の家があり、小役人にも同様にございます
一文化九年申年三月二十日、小役人格十二石三人扶持を下された野村民右衛門が病気につき、立て替えを仰せ付け下され置かれるよう仕りたい旨、奉行梶川半兵衛が覚書付をもって御嘆き申し上げましたところ、今日病気内の願いにつき立て替えで息子某へ仰せ付け、十二石三人そのまま小算に仰せ付けられました
但し先例として河部善兵衛が病気で立て替え、この者は十二石の小役人でしたが跡目十二石で小算に仰せ付けられた例がございます
一留守年でしたが右の病気立て替えは江戸への伺いなしに仰せ付けられたこと。小役人伊藤武左衛門が病気で立て替えを御嘆き申し上げましたところ、伺いなしに仰せ付けられた例がございます

Record of Senior Retainers
One: Genroku 5, Year of the Monkey, 7th month, 5th day - Son of Kitchen Head Kusaemon
Granted 12 koku of rice stipend and support for 3 persons - Yoshida Tōsuke
Note: His father Kusaemon's rice stipend was 18 koku and support for 3 persons
The aforementioned father Kusaemon died of illness this summer, so the son was granted the above provisional appointment and summoned. For now, he should be assigned to perform duties such as accounting work, as instructed by Matsudaira Shōbei and Sakai Yosaburō. Today this was conveyed to magistrate Kanie Gyōbu Uemon to relay to Tōsuke. However, while Edo has indicated this should be granted as succession, unless there are special intentions, there is no precedent for granting succession to minor officials. Therefore, I instructed Kanie Gyōbu Uemon to investigate further. He reported that generally, if it is succession, stipends are granted from the time of the parent's death, but if not succession, stipends are granted from the day of appointment according to law. In recent years, when provisional appointments were granted to the son of Master Carpenter Takama Yoichirō and the son of Barren Land Head Kubomura Yaemon, though not designated as succession, stipends were granted continuously like succession. Today I instructed to proceed with the appointment for now and reported this matter to Edo【End of red ink notation】
Regarding Succession of Assistant Officials and Minor Officials
One: In Kanbun 11, Year of the Boar, 10th month, the following was proclaimed and conveyed to magistrates through Honda Sakon:
【In small text】Officials who serve their roles well, when they die leaving sons, even if the sons are young, shall be granted stipends of 3 persons' support going forward, as proclaimed. On the 16th day of the 10th month, this was announced to the magistrates at the castle.

Hereafter, minor officials who receive New Year gifts and serve their duties well, when they die of illness, after investigation, even if their sons are young,

shall be granted stipends for 3 persons' support, as proclaimed
One: The succession from minor official is to accountant, from accountant to clerk, as standard according to magistrate Katō Chōemon. However, under ancient law none of these positions had succession; this practice began in the middle ages. Among accountants there are hereditary accounting families, and the same applies to minor officials.
One: Bunka 9, Year of the Monkey, 3rd month, 20th day: When Nomura Tamemon, who held minor official rank with 12 koku and 3 persons' support, became ill, magistrate Kajikawa Hanbei submitted a petition requesting that a replacement be appointed. Today, due to the illness petition, his son was appointed as replacement with the same 12 koku and 3 persons' support and made an accountant.
Note: There is precedent with Kawabe Zenbei's illness replacement; he was a 12 koku minor official whose succession was appointed as 12 koku accountant
One: Though it was a year when the lord was absent, this illness replacement was appointed without consultation with Edo. There is precedent when minor official Itō Buzaemon's illness replacement was petitioned and appointed without consultation.
