小役人格之者之跡年頃之者へは御擬作十二石三人ふち被下置候而小算被仰付幼年之者へは三人ふち被下置候事只今迄右之通候
得共以来は小算も可減候事に候得は年頃之者に而も五人ふち被下置先添人に被成置小算明候節各吟味之上被仰付候砌御擬
作並之通可被下候尤其人柄に寄其侭小役人へ被仰付候者も可有之候事に候此度改而被仰出候左様可被相心得候

現代語訳
報告し、御奉行から伺いの上で御用書を以て跡目を仰せ付けられることもあり、区分けが決まって以来間違いが起こることも計り難い。
右の立て替わりについては親の勤功の厚い廉により跡目を仰せ付けられる次第で御評議もあるべきことであり、かつ息子の人柄についても御吟味があるべきことであるから、以来中判役立て替わりの節は拙者ども（同上）から御奉行・御目付へ示談の上、御家老中へ御達し申し上げ、御評議の上で御用書を以て拙者ども（同上）へ跡目を仰せ付けられるべきであるから、そのように心得て取り計らうべき旨、御奉行月番市村勘右衛門、御目付月番土屋十郎右衛門から演説があった事。
右は天保十五年辰年二月十六日、御作事奉行加藤茂右衛門の留書である。
追加
一同断の節、小算以下の者については御奉行へ談じた上で御目付へ故障もない者であるか問い合わせ、故障のない者の跡式の儀について御奉行・御目付へ熟談の上、御作事奉行が跡目を申し渡した上で御奉行・御目付へ跡目を申し渡した段を手紙を以て申し遣わす事。また御目付へは追って書きで御序の節に御家老中へ本文の趣を御物語下されるべき旨を申し遣わす事。
右は弘化二年巳年六月二十九日、逸見次郎三郎養子跡目の節、評定所において御奉行市村勘右衛門、御目付月番山本源左衛門と示談の上で定められる。同人の留書。
一嘉永二年酉年三月二十一日、小算格中判役増村十三郎の儀、病気のところ御奉公勤め難い趣につき、養子雄助と申す者へ立て替わりを仰せ付け下し置かれるよう、願口上書並びに勤書を以て御作事奉行どもへ相達したことにつき、その段を御家老中へ相達したところ、願いの通り立て替わりを仰せ付けられ、養子雄助と申す者へ御充行十石二人扶持を下し置かれ、中判本役を仰せ付けられる旨、本多肇方から申し聞かされたことにつき、その段を申し渡すよう御作事奉行へ相達した。もっとも御奉行へも同断。
但し十三郎の儀は小算格故に右様の手続きではないはずであるが、今度の儀は養子へ十石二人中判本役を仰せ付けられることにつき右の通り取り扱った。

一寛保二年戌年五月十六日、小算山本丈右衛門病気につき御暇を下されたところ、数十年相勤めた者の儀につき、息子喜八を小算に召し出し十石三人扶持を下された。しかしてはかような願いの品はその節に至り御吟味があるべき事の由、御家老中彦坂又兵衛へ申し渡された。
一元文三年午年八月二十一日、明石将監並びに彦坂又兵衛へ申し渡された。
御徒の者格以下で跡目を仰せ付けられない者どもの儀、病死いたせば近年支配どもからその者の息子がある、または養子を仕置き弟・甥等があるという旨で、年頃にも及ばず当然御用にも立たない者も跡に召し出し下されるように願う者もある。そうであれば御作法にも相違するように相成る。この以後の儀は、当然御用に立たない者等の儀は先ず召し出されるに及ばず、年比にも至って願えば親も相勤めた者の息子等の事、その上厄介等もある者などは空きの節に御吟味があるべき事である。但し家業等がある者の息子・弟等、その外にも上から思し召しを以て仰せ付けられる者の儀は格別の事である。右の趣、何れも支配の面々心得て罷り在るべき旨、仰せ出された。以上
一同五年申年十一月二十二日、小役人格の者の息子を親の通りに仰せ付けられ、親の儀は休息いたすように仰せ付けられる節、格式は親の通り役儀を仰せ付けられても、御擬作の儀は向後親からは減らされ仰せ付けられ、御役儀の勤め方も宜しくあれば追って御擬作の御直しを下されるべき旨、仰せ出された。

Regarding such replacements, succession is appointed based on the parent's distinguished service, and there should be deliberation on this matter, and moreover, there should be examination of the son's character. Therefore, henceforth when replacing deputy middle inspectors, after we (same as above) consult with magistrates and inspectors, we shall report to the senior councilors, and after deliberation, succession shall be appointed to us (same as above) through official documents. We should understand and handle matters accordingly, as explained by monthly magistrate Ichimura Kanemon and monthly inspector Tsuchiya Jūroemon.
This is a memorandum by construction magistrate Katō Shigeemon on the 16th day of the 2nd month of Tenpō 15, Year of the Dragon.
Addition
One: In the same manner, for those of accountant rank or below, after consultation with the magistrate, inquiry shall be made to the inspector whether there are any objections to the person. For those without objections, regarding succession matters, after thorough consultation with magistrates and inspectors, after the construction magistrate announces the succession, a letter shall be sent to the magistrates and inspectors informing them of the succession announcement. Also, to the inspector, in a follow-up letter, at an appropriate time, the gist of the main text should be conveyed to the senior councilors.
This was established on the 29th day of the 6th month of Kōka 2, Year of the Snake, during the succession of Henmi Jirōsaburō's adopted son, after consultation between magistrate Ichimura Kanemon and monthly inspector Yamamoto Genzaemon at the council chamber. Same person's memorandum.
One: On the 21st day of the 3rd month of Kaei 2, Year of the Rooster, regarding Masumura Jūzaburō, deputy middle inspector of accountant rank, due to illness making it difficult to perform official duties, a petition was submitted through written application and service records to the construction magistrates requesting that his adopted son Yūsuke be appointed as replacement. When this matter was reported to the senior councilors, the replacement was approved as petitioned, and the adopted son Yūsuke was granted a stipend of 10 koku and support for 2 persons and appointed to the main position of deputy middle inspector, as informed by Honda Hajime, and this was conveyed to the construction magistrates for announcement. The same was also conveyed to the magistrates.
However, since Jūzaburō was of accountant rank, this procedure should not have been followed, but in this case, since the adopted son was appointed to the main position of deputy middle inspector with 10 koku and 2 persons, it was handled as above.
Monthly duty: Senmoto Tōzaemon
One: On the 11th day of the 12th month of Kyōwa 3, Year of the Boar, town magistrate Arakawa Jūemon made the following report. When this was conveyed to the senior councilors, they indicated it would be held in custody, and this was communicated to Jūemon.

My yoriki (assistant) Matsuda Seizaemon suffered from jaundice since this summer and died of illness on the last day of last month. Therefore, I wish to summon his son Genjirō as Seizaemon's replacement. Please kindly convey this matter to the senior councilors. Above.
12th month To Imamura Denbei-dono Arakawa Jūemon
However, on the 16th day of the 1st month of the following Year of the Rat, it was announced through official documents to Denbei that the petition was approved as requested, and this was communicated to Jūemon.
One: On the 25th day of the intercalary 10th month of Kan'en 1, Year of the Dragon, to the magistrate:
For successors of those of minor official rank, mature persons shall be granted provisional 12 koku and support for 3 persons and appointed as accountants, while young persons shall be granted support for 3 persons. This has been the practice until now, but henceforth, since the number of accountants should be reduced, even mature persons shall be granted support for 5 persons and first made assistants. When accountant positions become vacant, after examination of each person, they shall be appointed and granted the same as provisional appointments. Naturally, depending on the person's character, some may be directly appointed as minor officials. This has been newly announced. It should be understood accordingly.
One: On the 16th day of the 5th month of Kanpō 2, Year of the Dog, when accountant Yamamoto Jōemon was granted leave due to illness, considering his decades of service, his son Kihachi was summoned as an accountant and granted 10 koku and support for 3 persons. However, such petition matters shall be examined when the time comes, as was conveyed to senior councilor Hikosaka Matahei.
One: On the 21st day of the 8th month of Gembun 3, Year of the Horse, conveyed to Akashi Shōgen and Hikosaka Matahei:
When those of foot soldier rank or below who are not appointed to succession die of illness, in recent years their supervisors petition that the deceased's sons exist, or that adopted sons, younger brothers, nephews, etc. have been arranged, even if they are not of mature age and naturally unfit for official duties, requesting they be summoned as successors. This would contradict proper procedures. Henceforth, those who are naturally unfit for official duties need not be summoned first. If they reach maturity and petition, regarding sons of those who served as parents, and especially those who have dependents, examination shall be conducted when positions become vacant. However, sons and brothers of those with family businesses, and others appointed through special consideration from above, are separate matters. All supervisors should understand and observe these principles, as has been announced. Above.
One: On the 22nd day of the 11th month of the same 5th year, Year of the Monkey, when sons of those of minor official rank are appointed in the same manner as their parents, and the parent is ordered to retire, even if rank is appointed the same as the parent, regarding provisional appointments, henceforth they shall be reduced from the parent's level. If their performance of official duties is satisfactory, the provisional appointment may be adjusted later, as has been announced.
