現代語訳

かかる所へ主人の馬頭たちが帰ってきて、「やれ、御輿入道にていらっしゃいますか。さあさあこちらへ」と家へ招じ入れ、「山奥なれば何と申すご馳走もなし。きついもの、粟の飯までございませぬ」と、秘蔵していた鉢植えの化け木どもを檜の薪として燃やしてもてなした。

「やれやれ、知らぬ事とてもったいない、そまつなご挨拶申しました。」

「まずまず四五日もご逗留なされませ。」

「痩せたりともこの馬が心、いつわい、ご馳走申そう。」

不義なき野辺に入って君の…殿は今は三つ又の子となり給う所、お目にかかりそう。化けもののかしらにしてお参らせしが、何よりもゆえ知らぬと…ご承引なく、魍魎ともの…にいらっしゃるゆえ、これへ。

「お出でなされ、ご真摯、ご対面なされ…に存じまする。」

「粟の飯もいやいや、米の飯もいやいや、炒り火鉢…の鉄片でござる。」

英語訳

At this point, the master Bato (horse-head demon) and his companions returned and said, "Oh my, it's Mikoshi Nyudo! Come, come this way," inviting him into the house. "Since this is deep in the mountains, we have no proper hospitality to offer. We don't even have decent food, not even millet rice," he said, and burned his treasured potted supernatural trees as hinoki cypress firewood to provide warmth.

"Oh my, oh my, not knowing who you were, I offered such rude and humble greetings."

"Please, please stay for four or five days."

"Though it may be meager, this horse's heart [will provide] - indeed, let us offer you proper hospitality."

Entering the righteous field... the lord has now become a three-pronged child, and we shall meet. Though we presented him as the head of monsters, more than anything, not knowing the reason... without consent, as he dwells among demons and spirits, [come] here.

"Please come out, with sincerity, please meet... I believe."
