現代語訳

お六もほどなく七夜にて、めでたくお祝いが夜更けになったので、乳付け（授乳）も産女（うぶめ）も休む。

見越しの介ただ一人夜伽をして、薬などを煎じ作っていたが、この頃の疲れにて、とろとろと居眠りしているうちに、髪を乱した異人が夢枕に立ち給う。

産女もこの頃の疲れで、前後を知らず寝入る。

「善哉善哉、我はこれ諸化け物の産土、山の神なり。我が守っているまず平安は様子、母の嗜み辛く籠もっていてより、一度も食いを歯に挟まぬゆえ、その姿人間のごとし。これによって間違いにて人の魂が入り、悔やんでも帰らぬ事、因果と諦めよ。とても化け物の子には大きな形離れなれば、早々山へなりとも捨てるべし。必ず疑う事なかれ」

英語訳

Soon after, on the seventh night after Oroku's birth, the celebration went on until late into the night, so both the nursing and the birth-spirit (ubume) took a rest.

Mikooshi-no-suke alone kept vigil through the night, brewing medicines and such, but exhausted from recent events, he dozed off drowsily. While sleeping, a strange figure with disheveled hair appeared in his dream.

The birth-spirit, also exhausted from recent events, fell asleep unconsciously.

"Excellent, excellent! I am the tutelary deity of all monsters, the mountain god. Under my protection, peace has been maintained. The mother, through her painful ascetic practices and confinement, has not taken a single bite of food, thus her form resembles that of a human. Because of this, a human soul entered by mistake and cannot return despite regret - accept this as karma. Since this is greatly misshapen for a monster's child, you should abandon it quickly in the mountains or elsewhere. Do not doubt this at all."
