救急撮要方序

そもそも身近なものを軽んじて、遠くのものを求める。易しいものを無視して、困難なものを求める。未だかつて真に得ることのできた者はいない。

試しに我が医学の道について述べてみよう。前庭のホコリタケは出血を止めることができる。後ろの菜園の芋の茎は蜂に刺された傷を治すことができる。かまどの中の黄土は嘔吐に効き、食塩を温湯に溶かしたものはコレラに効く。これらは薬方の中でも最も身近で簡単なものではないだろうか。しかしこれらはすべて急病を救い、突然の病気に対応するのに十分である。

それならばなぜ、上党の人参や、麝香門の麝香など、非常に遠く入手困難な薬物を求める必要があるのだろうか。その後で

Preface to Emergency Treatment Essential Prescriptions

Generally speaking, people despise what is near and seek what is distant. They ignore what is easy and pursue what is difficult. There has never been anyone who could truly obtain [what they seek this way].

Let me speak of this in terms of our medical practice. The puffball mushroom in the front garden can stop bleeding. The taro stems in the back vegetable garden can treat bee stings. The yellow earth from the stove can cure vomiting, and salt dissolved in warm water can treat cholera. Are these not among the most accessible and simple of medicinal prescriptions? Yet all of these are sufficient to rescue from urgent conditions and respond to sudden illness.

Then why must we seek such distant and difficult-to-obtain substances as ginseng from Shangdang or musk from the musk deer's scent glands, and only then...
