それで良いと言えるだろうか。ましてや海の果てや山の奥、荒涼として遠く離れた僻地において、一旦急病や突然の病気が起こった時、身近にある薬物を知らずに、嘆き慌てふためいて、手をこまねいて死を待つというのは、最も嘆かわしいことである。
曽祖父である藍渓先生は、かねてよりこのことを憾みとされ、『済急方』一書を著された。祖父である桂山先生は、続いて『救急選方』の著作をされた。思うに『済急』は、特に僻地で医者のいない土地での便宜を図ったものであり、『救急』は、医師が緊急時に用いる資料としても兼用できるものである。これらが世の中にもたらす大きな利益は、浅いものではない。

My great-grandfather, Master Rankei, had long harbored regret about this matter and authored the book "Saikyū-hō" (Emergency Relief Methods). My grandfather, Master Keizan, subsequently wrote "Kyūkyū Senpō" (Selected Emergency Prescriptions). I believe that "Saikyū" was designed specifically for the convenience of remote places lacking physicians, while "Kyūkyū" also serves as a resource for medical practitioners in emergency situations. The great benefit these bring to the world is not insignificant.
However, "Saikyū" is a large, thick volume inconvenient to carry, and "Kyūkyū" also contains parts that common people find difficult to understand. People sometimes found this problematic. The hermit scholar Mokuo, recognizing this issue, compiled "Kyūkyū Satuyō-hō" (Essential Emergency Prescriptions).
