現代語訳
【右丁】
池谷の家内の婚礼で忙しいけれども、甚六ひとり暇人で、美味しいものだらけなので喜んでいる。佐渡行きの女たちも弟たちも、つまらないことで浮気をする。
【左丁】
子ゆえの闇の親心で、甚六を人並みにしたいと思い、母は、ありとあらゆる願掛けや祈祷をし、浅草の地蔵様ほか、他の寺社へは月参りし、立身出世を頼んだり。神様は、何宗、何宗の隔てもなく、そのおかげか、暑い寒いぐらいは言うようになった。
【右丁下の言葉】
どうぞ毎日お客があればよい。美味しいものよ。饅頭が赤くてよい。
【左丁下の言葉】
何事も神信心。お布施にお世話だ。阿波の般若波羅蜜多。

The Ikeya household is busy with the wedding, but Jinroku alone is free and delighted because there's an abundance of delicious food. The women bound for Sado and the younger brothers too are having frivolous affairs.
[Left page]
With the dark parental heart that comes from caring for one's child, wanting to make Jinroku respectable, his mother performs all manner of vows and prayers, makes monthly pilgrimages to Asakusa's Jizo-sama and other temples, praying for his success in life. The gods, without distinction between Buddhist sects, seem to have blessed him - at least now he complains about hot and cold weather.
