現代語訳
【右丁】
甚六は神様のおかげで少し話もできるようになったので、何か稽古事でも始めたら人付き合いもできるようになるだろうと、医者の伝白を頼み、金は少々出してもよいと親父まで言うので、甚六に勧める。「お前には何がよかろうか」と言うと、「思いつきもない」と様々な稽古をくじにして、大師様のおみくじということにして振り出す。第一番のくじに謡い、第二鼓、第三三味線、第五浄瑠璃、第六剣術、第七花、第八俳諧、第九学問、第十茶の湯。これほど稽古したならば、それからは心任せに十種香、連歌、胡弓、銅鑼、妙鉢に至るまで習っておけば。

Since Jinroku has improved somewhat and can now speak a little thanks to the gods' blessings, thinking that if he began some kind of lessons he might become more sociable, they consulted the doctor Denhaku, and even his father said he would pay a little money for it, so they encouraged Jinroku. When asked "What would be good for you?" he replied "I have no idea," so they made lots for various arts and drew them as if they were oracle slips from Daishi-sama. The first lot was singing (utai), the second was drumming (tsuzumi), the third shamisen, the fifth jōruri, the sixth swordsmanship, the seventh flower arrangement, the eighth haikai poetry, the ninth scholarship, the tenth tea ceremony. If he studied this much, then afterwards he could freely learn everything from jūshu-kō (ten-variety incense ceremony), renga (linked verse), kokyū (Chinese fiddle), dora (gong), to myōhachi (temple bells).
