永祿十二年夏信長上洛アツテ京都ニ於テ新宗
南蠻寺弘法繁昌シテ門徒羣集スルヲ見聞シテ大ニ
悅ヒ近習ノ人ヲ以テ其新宗歸伏ノ人ヲ近付テ
委ク教論スル所ヲ聞シ召給フニ諸宗ト反シテ門
徒ヨリ施入ノ物少モ受ケス洛中近國ノ難病大
病ヲ引取テ大分ノ施藥ヲ費スト雖共曾テ報謝
ヲ取ラス剰貧窮ノ者ハ其家内ノ人迄モ助力ヲ
與ヘ大分ノ門徒ニ日々米金ヲ施ス其教化スル

In the summer of Eiroku 12 (1569), when Nobunaga went up to the capital and saw and heard that the propagation of the new sect of the Nanban temple was flourishing in Kyoto with disciples gathering in crowds, he was greatly pleased. He had his close retainers bring near those who had converted to this new sect, and when he listened in detail to their doctrine, [he learned that] contrary to other Buddhist sects, they did not receive any offerings from their disciples at all. They took in people with difficult and serious illnesses from the capital and nearby provinces and spent great amounts on medicine, yet never took any payment in return.
