迚天帝ノ宗旨辨舌ヲ碎テ說法ス然レトモ此母ハ
堅固ノ念佛宗ニテ余宗ノ說法耳ニ入ラス梅庵
ニ申ケルハ御懇切ノ御說法教化忝候然レトモ我
等代々念佛宗ニテ今天下ニ諸宗多シト雖共餘
宗ノ法義ヲ聞カス偏ニ彌陀ノ誓願ヲ賴テ既ニ
今世ニシテ成佛得道シタル心ニテ佛法ニ餘事
有ヿヲ知ラス然レハ御教化ハ難有候得共今更
彌陀ノ誓願ヲ離レンヿ曾テ難仕候迚梅庵カ教
化ヲ肯ハス元來梅庵ハ此母ヲ利德ヨリ宗門ニ
引入レ母歸伏セハ修理太夫モ容易ニ入德スヘ

とて天帝の宗旨について弁舌を尽くして説法した。しかしながら、この母は堅固な念仏宗の信者であって、他宗の説法は耳に入らない。梅庵に申すには「ご懇切なご説法・教化、ありがたく存じます。しかしながら、我ら代々念仏宗でございまして、今天下に諸宗多しといえども、余宗の法義を聞きません。ひとえに弥陀の誓願を頼みとして、既に今世において成仏得道したる心持ちで、仏法に他のことがあることを知りません。それゆえ、ご教化はありがたく存じますが、今更弥陀の誓願を離れることは、まったくできかねます」とて、梅庵の教化を承知しなかった。もともと梅庵はこの母を利益によって宗門に引き入れ、母が帰伏すれば修理太夫も容易に入信するであろうと

saying this, he preached extensively about the doctrines of the Heavenly Emperor, exhausting his eloquence. However, this mother was a firm believer in the Nembutsu sect, and the preaching of other sects did not enter her ears. She said to Baian: "Your kind preaching and instruction are most appreciated. However, we have been followers of the Nembutsu sect for generations, and although there are many sects throughout the realm today, we do not listen to the doctrines of other sects. We rely solely on Amida's vow, and with the feeling that we have already achieved Buddhahood and enlightenment in this present world, we know of no other matters in Buddhism. Therefore, while your instruction is gratefully received, we absolutely cannot abandon Amida's vow at this point." Thus, she did not accept Baian's teaching. Originally, Baian intended to draw this mother into the sect through benefits, thinking that if the mother submitted, the Shuri-dayū would also easily convert.
