という者を荷担し、密かに義昭公が異国人を召し寄せられるという所の御教書を偽書して、源内を上使として西国へ差し向かわせた。源内は九州に到着して御教書を龍造寺に渡したところ、高重は御教書を拝見し、謀書であることを知らなかったので、謹んで畏まり、すぐに千家司中西監物、笹原弥左衛門を付き添わせて京都に差し上らせた。信長は鳥羽四ツ塚辺りへ人数を差し出してこれを受け取らせ、近江国安土の城下へ引き取った。また龍造寺の送りの人が帰って、高重に信長の密謀の趣を申し上げたところ、高重は大いに憤ったけれども詮方なかった。この異国人の京着は九月三日であった。

and used this person as an accomplice, secretly forging an official letter purporting that Lord Yoshiaki was summoning the foreigner, and dispatched Gen'nai as an imperial envoy to the western provinces. When Gen'nai arrived in Kyushu and presented the official letter to the Ryūzōji, Takashige examined the letter and, not knowing it was a forgery, respectfully and humbly complied, immediately having the retainers Nakanishi Kenmotsu and Sasahara Yazaemon accompany [the foreigner] up to Kyoto. Nobunaga dispatched troops to the Toba Yotsuzuka area to receive them and brought them back to the castle town of Azuchi in Ōmi Province. When the Ryūzōji escort returned and reported to Takashige about Nobunaga's secret plot, Takashige was greatly enraged but could do nothing about it. This foreigner's arrival in the capital was on the third day of the ninth month.
