その前の八月二十四日、摂州住吉の社が鳴動して松の樹六十六本が倒れたということを、神主摂津守三位国宗が奏聞した。朝廷で評議があって、松の樹が倒れることはそれほど珍しいことではないけれども、その木の数が六十六本に限られることは、日本の国数（六十六カ国）に当たるので凶事とすべきであるとして、寺社に命じて祈祷を行わせた。このような異人が渡来して邪法を広め、人民に害をなすであろう前兆であろう。こうして異国人は近江国安土の城下に到着したので、妙法寺という寺に入って三日間休息し、九月三日に城中へ召し呼ばれて信長が謁見された。ウルカン破天連は身にアイトという物を着ている。

Prior to this, on the twenty-fourth day of the eighth month, the Sumiyoshi Shrine in Settsu Province experienced tremors and sixty-six pine trees fell down, which the head priest Settsu no Kami Sanmi Kunimune reported to the court. The court held deliberations and concluded that while the falling of pine trees was not particularly unusual, the fact that the number was limited to exactly sixty-six trees corresponded to the number of provinces in Japan (sixty-six provinces) and should be considered an ill omen, so they ordered temples and shrines to conduct prayers. This would likely be a portent that such a foreigner would come and spread heretical teachings, causing harm to the people. Thus the foreigner arrived at the castle town of Azuchi in Ōmi Province, entered a temple called Myōhōji where he rested for three days, and on the third day of the ninth month was summoned to the castle where Nobunaga granted him an audience. The Urugan Hateren wore something called an "aito" on his body.
